I have one of those torches that has a strap around your head. works really well.  bought it but it quickly became mine for owrking in or under the mog. These are excellent devices but you do feel a little bit like "Torchy the Battery Boy" for those with long memories....

And now the photos... Here is the old cable...not a good sight.  And here is the hidden bracket that holds the end of the outer cable. Hidden is another 10mm nut! Adjusting the cable isn't easy.  All sorted now, also fitted washers under the bracket at the other end to try and optimize the exit angle.

Ah....looking at your photos Peter it looks as though it frayed at the throttle quadrant end, not the pedal end.

Exactly! All Series 2 Roadster owners need to keep the cable well greased and as the miles get up above 20,000 check it regularly. It is easy to find a broken strand: greas the cable with your fingers and the end of the strand will stick into your skin. This is painful.  I know, it is how I found the problem!

Great write up Peter, I'll have to take a look at "Monte" to see if the Plus 4 set up is similar. However.... is the root cause of the problem too heavy a right foot?  It was like the Black Hole of Calcutta down there!  The cable is held well away from the steering column by a zip tie that holds it to part of the cable loom. Interestingly the fraying was caused by the cable exiting the sheath through a metal ferrule at a non-optimal angle so that as the cable pulls open the throttle it rubs on the loert lip of the ferrule, the wider the throttle opening the more it rubs. The hole in the ferrule is noticably oval. A total of 4 main strands had failed, about 40% of the total. The solution requires the bracket holding the end of the cable outer and which is bolted to the inlet manifold is re-angled so the cable doesn't rubthe edge of the ferrule. I think a 1.5mm thickness washer under the rear mount may do this. More to do!

Mine is now frayed at 21k. New cable coming from BHM & will fit Sat. Will post photos.

I've just replaced my throttle cable for the 2nd time in around 4k miles. The repair was carried out by the side of a road in Chianti shire (where by the way, the worst roads in civilised Europe seem to exist). I had noticed that the cable I replaced first stretched considerably in a short space of time, this prompted me to carry a spare.
My car is on Jenvey throttle bodies so i guess there maybe additional pull required to overcome 4 throttle body springs compared with standard car. I also noticed that there seems to be a lack of any mechanical stop under the throttle pedal to prevent too much force being exerted at the butterfly control assembly as on most cars. Is my car missing something do others have mechanical stop, a bolt that can adjusted in length to allow full throttle opening but no more thus not exerting too much tension on the cable.
Other than than that ,there's a company in Nottingham, cable tec I think who do custom cables with info in maximum loads that they are capable of handling.
Seems like a sledge hammer to cracking a walnut but maybe that's the way

Well the cable is on. Roughly 45 mins.
The pig is to reconnect the tiny split pin in the clevis bolt on the accelerator peddle. For my 2006 Roadster the part is MBH2085.
