Ebony

Now that I've got the hang of the picture posting thing, I thought I would send you a few pics of the toys - one at a time - and feel free to pick'em apart

"Ebony" is a 1974 Plus 8 - Initially Signal red, and a Show car manufactured on Nov 1974. She was on sold to Allon-White but there my trail ends as they did not keep their sale records when they were bought out

I obtained her from Japan a couple of years ago, purchased on the strength of some beautiful photos and a healthy condition report from my agents car inspector. When she arrived in Port Macquarie I nearly cried, as her condition was very far from that described. Be that as it may, I have performed some major repairs and some cosmetic surgery and hopefully turned this pigs ear into a silk purse

I have done some minor painting

I changed the alloys to wires (kept the originals) but had to use low profile tyres to accommodate the slightly wider wheels in the wheel arches - Yes I will be careful with the sump, but I like the look

The head gaskets blew promptly on arrival, so the engine has been rebuilt and tided

The interior was missing a fair bit of trim, and I have played with this but door caps need to be replaced at some time

I sourced a steering wheel from the local auto store to match the dash and used a cut down wheel hub cap as the boss cover

Re-wired and instruments renovated

Rear wheel cavity in-filled with marine ply and stained accordingly

Straight through exhausts makes her snarl and spit

Otherwise, frame, chassis etc appear pretty sound and the previous owner made a fair attempt at a renovation, but I think struggled to complete

What to you all think?

Next car will be "Ivory"!

Great looking car and certainly one with a story. Like you I have found great satisfaction in bringing my car up to standard. All part of the fun.

nice to see a dash with the same layout as mine; even down to the starter button.

Agree with Richard, great looking car. Thank you for posting the photos.

Wonder if you have joined MOCA, apologies if you are already a member, in which case you will be aware they will be in your general area as they are touring Armidale, SW Rocks etc in July.
