Or modify the retaining clip bracket to shorten the distance between the clip and the screw. That would move the stay away from the cam cover and there should be enough clearance to the bonnet when it's in place. Just initial thoughts.

(P.S. My stays should be en route this weekend so I can fit them next week )

I don't have the same clearance problem that Peter has, perhaps there is a variance in the wing mounting holes?

Also the distance between cam cover and wing isn't the same...

I’ve just finished fitting the near side strut, delayed by flat batteries in the drill. A perfect fit, no issues. It looks exactly as in your photo.

How can that be?

I must say I was confused and then thought to measure the gap between the top of the cam cover at its closest point to the wing, and the inner edge of the wing.

Nearside: 24mm
Offside: 16mm.

Now I was scratching my head!! Surely the engine is mounted centrally?

Careful examination shows that the cam covers are not handed, but exactly the same and the shape on the RHS, looking from the driver’s seat, bulges more than on the LHS. So there is less of a gap on the offside than the near side!

Cain is working on the solution, which will apply to Roadsters and may apply to +8s as well.

The variation could be caused by Wing mount bolts in a different position, or the rear bonnet catch mount in a different vertical position (allowing the bonnet lines to be correct).
These are the only variances between cars other than engine mounts!

I have had a chat with Peter and will be producing a slotted bracket to allow finite adjustment for V6 and possibly V8 Mogs.
Another amendment will be for riveted bonnet latch models a hard to get 3/16 Whitworth Pan Head bolt.

Peter, could it be that the engine isn't mounted vertically, it leans quite alot...hence the sump prob...?

It could be, the thing was intended to go in a front wheel drive car, mounted transversley....
But it doesn't look as if it is. But we are only talking a few mm out, so I'm not discounting anything!

Bottom line, the struts are excellent and positivly lock the bonnet in place, for me this is a big plus.

The Plus 4 engine is offset significantly from the centreline, so don't rule V6 engine offset out. The other thing to look at is that the inner valances may not be mirror images. The ones on my Roadster are not, and the offside is closer to the engine than the nearside.

So it is just "normal" Roadster!!

Look at the angle of the front bonnet catches. My nearside is almost straight, the offside is at 45 degrees.
