Thanks all for responses - I now understand the process but like Roger above, don't know which is the best option. Rutters can supply replacement 5-leaf as original and say they don't know of any problems with these, but I too am interested in 4-leaf alternatives. How to decide . . . ?

They were for a 2 seater Plus 8 1979 after I had read up on Gomog, etc then rang Peter and took his advice re the 4 leaf springs. I am of the opinion that the Factory tends to be led by the aftermarket gurus rather than the other way round.

John, for what it's worth I would fit the later MMC 4 leaf springs, if your heavy like me and carry luggage then consider the 4 seater version but if not the 2 seater ones are perfectly fine. If you speak to Peter at Mulfab tell him that bloke from Leicester said the new 4 leafs are best......and listen to him laugh ;-). No one knows Morgan suspension and brakes like Peter M! (And most other stuff about Morgans come to that)

Thanks all for the info. Just have to decide now whether to go for 4-leaf 2 or 4 seater.

I will be fitting a pair of 4 seater springs to Bumble later in the year. Although only two years old the ride height is low, and the offside crashes over bumps when it bottoms out, especially bad in Scotland due to the weight of luggage. I'll keep you posted.

Morgan had 3 attempts to fix the sagging suspension on my 2011 4/4 and ultimately fitted the 4 leaf 4 seater springs and retained the lowering blocks. So far so good but the car is up for a remeasure and compliance check soon so I will see if it has done the job. Fingers crossed.

The 'four leaves' are now supposed to be OK, but early ones were weak. I don't know when they changed. I do know where mine is banging. Where the spring passes under the rear wooden bulkhead from the front shackle, as it emerges into the rear axle space, there's about two inches clearance, maybe a bit less, when the car is jacked up. But when the weight is on the wheels this is much less of gap, and both sides show witness marks where the spring is hitting the wood, both on the wood, and on the spring.
At least I've found the source of the banging. It doesn't do this very much but it's like having a man with a hammer under my seat.
