On my Caterham CSR, the recommended way of getting the oil level correct is to slightly overfill the tank, and then go for a run and the surplus oil will be blown out of the breather, in this case into a separate catch tank, so, maybe the answer is to run the vent pipe into a breather tank or bottle, and when it stops coming out, the level is right?
