I have had my M3W for just over a year and I thought it was about time I registered onto the forum. I must confess that I have been avidly reading the forum for some time as a non-member. I always enjoy the banter and it is obvious there is a lot of knowledge, camaraderie and characters within the members. My M3W is my first Morgan so I have a lot to learn but I come from a motorcycling background (30 years of owning a Vincent Black Shadow and Steib sidecar outfit) and I think this is what attracted me to the 3 wheeler.
During my year of ownership (and 5500 miles) I have encountered most of the problems being discussed currently (and in the past) on the forum and at one time came close to handing the M3W back for a full refund but I am glad I persevered because they are such great things to drive.
On the subject of oil temperature and pressure, I recently fitted an SPA dual oil pressure and temperature gauge that gives the readings in real time. I mounted the sensors in a sandwich plate between the engine and the oil filter so the readings are taken between the oil pump and the bearings.
On start-up from cold the oil pressure settles down to about 65 psi on tick-over and the oil temperature is whatever the ambient air temperature is. When cruising at between 75 and 80 mph the oil temperature goes to about 85°C and the oil pressure sits at about 57 to 60 psi. When at this temperature the oil pressure at tick-over drops to about 25 psi.
I have not yet had a chance to check the oil temperature when the skip-fire cuts in but in stationary or slow moving traffic it rapidly rises to the high 90's°C.
I do not like the appearance of the MMC cooling pack and I intend to make my own using 2 off 140mm diameter fans (1 behind each cylinder) and depending on how effective these are I may consider adding an oil cooler behind the fans.
I hope to attend a few of the Moprgan gatherings and am looking forward to the Goggles and Gauntlets gathering this coming weekend and the Morgan Car Day at Waddesdon Manor the following weekend.
Best regards to all
Keith

Welcome Keith,

I used to call you "two toes" as you could not decide to stay in the closet or come out, now you are out and proud and it sounds as though you will be a great help to the rest of us with your R and D. Thanks for joining and sharing experience.

What cheese do you use to get a bear out of the woods?

Camembert

Come on bear!
