Morning all,

I am given to understanding that the BMW 4.4 engine in the S1 and S2 differ in output, but down to their mapping. Have any owners had their S1 engines upgraded, or is not as simple as finding someone with the correct software?

Also anyone have a good estimate on what a front end re spray on a Aero 8 is likely to cost. Not the lower splitter, but the sweeping front wings beside the lights.

Kind regards,

Not going to happen. S1 uses the M62TUB44 engine. S2 uses the N62B44 engine.

The newer models use the N62B48 engine.

N being the vanos addition.

So if remapping the S1, who do you call. DMS, evolve...... (Not ghostbusters)

Both have vanos - the M62 is the "old" design - the N62 the "new" design - wikipedia has information on both. The N62 has double vanos (as opposed to single) and the variable valve lift.

Whether Evolve/DMS will touch the Aero engine is another matter entirely. The engine is now "old tech". However, it should still feel pretty sprightly - so trying to gain a few extra BHP is not going to make too much difference.

I'd like to see the S65 in an Aero - preferably in B44 guise - now that would be something quite special

My days of swapping engines into cars are over, in fact I am not even sure who has my engine crane these days.

However to make up for it I did win a blown short range rover V8 on eBay yesterday with a view to making a wine rack for the garden out of it and using the rods and pistons to personalise a garden gate.

I am sure there are chip tuners out there with the maps and some RR time can do it, so I will look around.

Some time back DMS worked with Richard Thorne to do a chip for the Aero.
I have reason to believe it was for the 4.8L in the S4 and Max (now Coupe SS as well) so it would not be suitable for the S1 and S2.

It might be worth approaching RTCC.co.uk and DMS to see if they have anything. If they don't have it in the archives I doubt they would put the effort into it now as this is not going to be a big seller.

You might be better just putting the money into trading up into an S2/3/4 at some point. The Morgan re-cycling market seems to be good right now cheers

At least one s1 owner did do this with DMS. I toyed with it on the s1, but the reality was that you potentially traded a flatter torque curve for a few BHP at the top end. In reality this probably isn't going to make it a faster road car unless you drive everywhere at 6k rpm.

Air box and exhaust will liberate 5-10bhp if you have done that yet.
After that the key is to get the headders upgraded , airflow is the requirement to start with given the way the engine is packaged (so I was told).

There are some detailed threads on this topic,,

Hartage have a kit to upgrade the engine to 400bhp, but it was 18k plus labour back then...
