I was very against any audio in a Morgan when I started and certainly in my 4/4 it would have been wasted but my Roadster came with a system fitted and I find myself using it more and more. I'll change it at some stage to get one with a remote....to get round the biggest pain...trying to reach it!

A radio in a Roadster makes more sense as it masks the sound of the sump scraping on the ground!

I forgot to mention that the Sony does include a AM FM tuner but I'm waiting for a crappy hidden antenna I purchased on Ebay to arrive to hear the results. Hopefully my $5.00 spend was a sound investment....... Sorry, couldn't help myself

For those of you who do not want to get too deep into changing the car. Have you considered taking advantage of the modern trend of portable bluetooth speakers that link up to your Smartphone. Not a replacement but meant as a leftfield suggestion in case it helps.
They are battery powered and give up to 10 hours use They are removable from the car (hotel room for trips etc?) They can bluetooth or cable to an iPod or smartphone making the controls handy They can be in a footwell or on the backshelf depending on other load They avoid changes to the base car.
Not all of them can achieve a good sound but it does make for a light/simple solution that brings other benefits so I raise it to see if it helps. The sound quality of them is improving all the time as this becomes a mainstream product.
Works in car/hotel/home Bluetooth means you can control it from your phone which is close to you and in line of sight if you have a clip mount.
Just trying to give an option. I would still do what Firewood has done. I was looking for the same for my Aero S2. Same issue with volume and quality but not everyone wants this messing with the fun of a jaunt.

Thanks, Alistair. I'd not come across those before. (Not geeky enough!) My first Morgan 40 years ago had a tiny radio hidden under the bulkhead on the passenger's side, which was hardly worth trying to tune as it was impossible to hear unless sitting at a traffic lights. I never thought about a radio in my Caterhams, preferring the sound of the engine, and I feel the same about the current Roadster, but it's good to know there are options for playing music from the iPad. When I put it on the seat the other day the built in speaker was not - to put it mildly - very effective.

Hi Alistair, for you and others who do not know me, I was poking fun at myself partly (I work for Apple in a technical role). Every time I have taken an iPad or iPhone to MOG meetings, Noggins or shows I tend to get odd comments from some, or asked for a lesson on using it. I agree and did consider a Bluetooth speaker myself as I often use iPhone or iPad in the car with Co-Pilot app. However I ended up putting a modern Sony head in with pod speakers hidden down the footwell. The head is iPhone/ipad compatible, takes USB stick and I can get 50% of my music on 32gb stick. The main reason was Bluetooth speakers can be relatively heavy and I did not fancy one on the loose if I had to brake quickly or worse.
