Hi Folks
After 12 years Morgan ownership I have recently taken the plunge and purchased a '92 Plus 8. Previous Mogs had wires so the five stud alloys are a new departure for me!
Having just removed the wheels to grease the suspension I have realised I have no idea as to the correct torque settings for the wheel nuts. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks as ever
Nigel

I use 82Nm or 60lb/ft on my Roadsters alloys, the figure specified by Morgan in the handbook.

Torque on wheel nuts? What ever it is it should be less than the tyre fitters use that makes it impossible to remove the wheel with the tools provided with the car. I had to change a wheel on swmbo 's shopping trolley. First I broke the tool provided with the car, then a helpful passer by broke his. Finally I called a mechanic from work and told him to bring an old fork tube to extend the tommy bar on a heavy socket set. It took all his weight to undo the dam things.

I torque mine to 70 ft/lbs on the advise of Darren at New elms, this probably less thanhe would do. I do have an alloy socket that fits over the wheel nut and then an 1/2 inch drive sockets onto that to make it easier, contact wheelwidget@hotmail.co.uk for the alloy hex that fits over the wheel nut. cheers

Pretty sure 70 foot/pounds is the figure for a steel wheeled 4/4 from the 70s. I used my torque wrench one on Woodstock to learn what it felt like and from then on, used a normal socket handle.

I'd be reasonably sure all my subsequent efforts were within an acceptable tolerance of this. The trick I used was to use a longer handle to undo, and to do up, learn how far one places the effort such that it can be repeated.
