Gentlemen you need a lesson in training into who is boss . So act like me and will take one look then think she has no hope against an idiot and throw the towel in every time. Its called method in my madness. I cannot get her out the mog to go for a spin by myself at times , she is in it quicker than me. We are doing a very similar trip in early June, however SWMBO refused to do it in Mog, she seems to think it would be wet at some time while we are there....so it's the Audi for us, feel a bit soft now reading this......but happy to report back afterwards, at least I can approach all potential Mog hazards as if we were in it! You have my sympathies. I too have reached a point where the flies on ahead in comfort and with adequate luggage, and I take the car to meet her at the other end for day touring. Could you negotiate something similar - sending the wife, luggage or even car on ahead?

Thanks for the warning re: Corran Ferry / low tide. Planning to use it once while up there end of June... A must visit, for me, to Ardnamurchan Point and Lighthouse... As for I made a comment on some TV prog about the beauty of the Highlands and why I had to keep returning - the response was "Well, I'd like to go, so take the Land Rover..." Wonder if she'd settle for a Polo trip instead? Wouldn't have to save for the fuel for quite so long

Thanks all, some really helpful advice in this thread that I will inwardly digest and action. I must admit that I don't use my tonneau a huge amount at the moment but for this trip, with only me and my kit int the car, including golf clubs in the passenger footwell, it could work well.
Graham, on your last comment re Ardnamurchan, we absolutely love that part of Scotland and are going to an amazing house we rent for the third time for our family holiday this year called Bunallt Eachain. Fantastic views and location and all one level for my better half who is in a wheelchair.

Tuftie - try to persuade her. The journey up there won't be as refined as in your Audi but once up there, the roads are so good that you'll wish you'd taken the Morgan.
I noticed that the Motor rail ramp is still in place at Fort William station, but fenced off. What a shame it doesn't still run, at least occasionally.

Noted on Ardnamurchan Biffo. We're based at Ft. Augustus. So it will be a pleasant day's drive - ferry out, B-road / Road to the Isles return. As an ex-mariner with an interest in lighthouses it's something I have to do once. Can't see wanting to go if the two of us head up there for a holiday. Shame about the demise of the Motorrail Dave. I could happily run that and save our overnight on way up and another on way back... Years ago the drive would have been part of the challenge, but miles of motorway just isn't as appealing nowadays! Cheers,

Yeah, there's still a ramp at Temple Meads too and Bristol to FW on Motorail would make sense. Except they have now converted the last of the car carrier wagons into tree trunk carriers earlier this year From the world of "you couldna make it up" plc.

Last time and I headed up to the Highlands, I'd let her choose the cottage. Turned out it was 10 miles or so from Lochinver, in the 'village' of Drumbeg. We stayed at the Castle (it was a Best Western back then) in Inverary on the way up and return. In my 127" Land Rover it was quite a drive! Not sure why the group I go to Ft. Augustus with like to overnight at Carlisle, I'd like to get further north. It would leave more time to get the camera out on the scenery north of Glasgow (from Loch Lomond onward). So, when does join in a journey north, I could well take you up on the accommodation advice...
