No real purpose to this thread except to say that I am taking the Aero to North Wales for a bit of a workout this weekend - first time I'll be doing any real distance in it. Can't wait!

Currently at RTCC having a completely unnecessary service (always over-service my cars - but oil, grease and filter changes can't hurt!), and racing fluid put into the brakes (still don't don't feel confident in them, or any brakes on any S1 I've tried - but the big brake upgrade seemed like overkill)

Tent packed - in the absence of she who must be obeyed, who hates camping, I'm taking the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors i.e. get rained on.

Aeroman's Aero shower cap packed to protect the roof from the Welsh weather.

Dinner at a place that does local meat booked for Saturday night (can anyone tell that this might be a boys' trip?)

This should be fun. Other convoy members are an F355, Porsche 993 series 911, Honda NSX, Caterham R300 and Honda S2000.

Regarding the brakes I always found them fantastic - huge amount of feel through the brake pedal, and that lack of ABS a bonus as you can brake a lot harder than most modern ABS systems will let you in the dry without getting near locking up. In the wet I'd agree it's not so ideal, but then the nature of lightweight RWD sportscars in standing water is never going to be an ideal combination. Still i'ts a lot more stable than most..

Hopefully it's just a question of feel and getting used to them and this weekend is clearly a great opportunity to do that!

It's more brake fade - had some issues after some, er, spirited driving. I don't think that the brakes disspiate heat too well, and that problems may be being caused by the brake fliud heating up; racing fluid should (I hope) help with this...

Hi Harry, not wishing to start an argument, if your experience brake fade on the public road, either you must be a lunatic or your brake fluid have never been changed since new! Although I suspect it could be the latter
The roads in the N Wales are simply stunning , the weather forcast for the weekend is good, the bikers will be out in force, but so would the over-zealous coppers as well I was booked for speeding in my Ariel Atom for doing only 34mph, about 100yards before the national speedlimit sign, so enjoy and good luck

Kin is right to give you a health warning. I spend a lot of time in Mid/North Wales, when it comes to mobile speed cameras the police are 'zealots' beware any village you enter that has a bend at the entrance and a 30 MPH sign, lots of mobile cameras, very few fixed ones.

If you want some real driving get off the main roads and take the longer but much quieter, and fantastic, side roads.

If you get the chance try the Elan valley , all the car mags use it

Where are you staying? I may be out in the Roadster this weekend in mid Wales

Track action saw the fade, rather than public roads!! To be fair, wasn't all that impressed with the Aero on track (mainly due to the brakes; handling is really rather good!) - but then I guess that wasn't what it was designed for, and my comparison is a Caterham...

Good tips on Wales Kin - and I think that it's aimed at a more gentle drive rather than an attempt to break any records; it's a camping/food/driving trip, rather than just a hoon!

Harry, interesting to hear your comments about the Aero on track - it may be worth having a chat with Viper as he has tracked his S1 a fair amount and raves about it.

Having seen him drive (on track), and knowing his fleet of cars, he is both handy behind the wheel and knows what to look for when it comes to judging a cars ability.

I can't remember if he has mentioned brakes but if not, worth asking the question.

IIRC, he is away at the moment but I imagine will be back soon-ish, if he isn't already.

Must be quite a difference between S1 and S3 because I spent 4 hours on the track at Silverstone and the brakes just got better throughout the day and no fade at all.
