Hi all, finally going to have to replace the tyres on my 1981 + 8 which is currently fitted with 205/70VR14 Pirelli P5's. I don't really want to change from this size as I like the "balloon" effect tyres as distinct from the newer low profile ones but my initial research into such tyres, Pirellis or otherwise, indicate crazy prices, like £285.00 EACH ?? Any recommendations on where to purchase a decent quality tyre in this size tyre for a more sensible figure greatly appreciated. Regards Steve

Funnily enough someone else mentioned these guys and they do some Maxxis tyres in my size for £71.00 each which seems reasonable enough. Not sure why other makes are the crazy prices they are, maybe its because they are the same size as those fitted to early Ferrari's and they think all Ferrari owners are minted and will pay over the odds ! Me, conspiracy theorist, never : ).

They are so expensive because they are V rated tyres.

Vredestein Sprint Classic 205/70 R14 95 V are a pretty good alternative but they are still expensive. If you drop back to a H rated (210 km/h) there is a wealth of choice for much less money.

The Toyo Teo Plus 205/70 R14 95 H would be a good alternative.

Maxxis are Chinese and they are cheap for a reason. For a relatively high performance car like a +8, I would never fit anything other than a premium brand.
Take a look at some of the comparison tests of Chinese versus premium, particularly in the area of wet grip and wet braking. The difference in stopping distance may be a matter of life or death, literally. Many of the premium brands produce tyres in China but they use global specifications and Euro compounds and are as good as that implies.

I fit Toyo to mine and they seem very good.

I appreciate the comments on quality but not everything from China is rubbish is they have to meet certain standards to be sold here and they are V rated. The reverse of your point is why are the so called premium makes so expensive, in some cases one tyre costs more than a set of 4 Maxxis and I would suggest its just because they can be. I'll report back when they are on. I can't find Toyo's in my size ?

Maxxis have had some good write ups in the past so don't write them off.

Trying to find "classic" look tryes for the Aldermog, with its 205/55 R6 firring isn't easy. Everything seems to have a modern asymetric tread.

Ayone know of anything available?
