I’m intrigued by this one as I wanted to change my older square block type (pre 2006/7) to the new style. Contacted MR to buy a new pair but was told they are not interchangeable, "no can do". As far as I can gather the tubes are a similar size. They appear do have varying degrees of crushing to facilitate a tight fit. However the older version headrest rests on top of the seats, were as the newer style headrests appear to sit a little above the seats. So something subtle with the seat design between age of cars maybe?. Never quite got to the bottom of what the difference was.

Anyway to cut through all of this I’m in the process of fabricating my own (another slow time project!) I’ve purchased a quantity of thick walled oval tube of the correct dimensions and plan to construct the foamed body of the headrest. Hopefully then have them professionally upholstered.

I inspected my seats today and have determined I have two holes so I am back to square one!

I once saw a mog with headrests which were apparently from the back of a landrover, which model I didn't find out. They were good though as they were solid but taller and felt more like they might be useful in a bump.

It turns out not as far back as I feared. I have been in touch with Melyvn Rutter and he has told me that I have the Restall seats that were standard in the '70s. I need to remove the seat and trim and check the hole spacing (by feel it is 6 inches thought the leather and in to the frame).

It seems new headrests and fittings can then be supplied.

Giles and I missed an opportunity there...!

The idea of putting speakers in the headrest is appealing: Madza MX5s have them and replacements are available:

So I need a couple of "spare" headrests to work on, I think a trip to my local Landrover Specialist (all of 700 yards) is needed.

In an open car the HF units need to be at ear level, so where better? Also they would be invisible, even better. A sub bass down in the passenger footwell would comlete the job.

I did cross my mind as I wrote that - I'll line them up - you and Giles can put them away!

I've just swopped mine over Roger, and they fit.
The stalks are the same length. The only visual difference is that the later stalks are slightly indented on the front edge.

So the big ones from the Roadster fit Bumble, but are loose and don't sit all the way down.
The small ones from Bumble fit the Roadster perfectly.

The only thing which is odd is that there's no obvious reason why the big ones don't go all the way down in Bumble.

In the almost six years I've had my Roadster, not once have I used the radio - it's a waste of time. And thankfully Bumble isn't radio prepared.
