Yes, my car is home again tonight. I've been out & tucked the duvet in and patted the roll hoops before turning out the light..
To recap, we'd gingerly returned home from France with an oil leak and a bunch of chirping cicada's in the boot. Sometimes they all sneezed at once and made the engine misfire a little, too..
The car was returned to Williams via Morgan Rescue, who liased with MMC about the repairs and took the car back to the factory for a diagnosis, and just two weeks to the day I have it back here in my sweaty paws.
The oil leakage was the rear crankshaft seal, which of course entailed an engine out to repair, and the bevel box plus pulleys and belt have all been replaced. They have even fiddled with my ECU..
I have no knowledge of exactly what the noise issue was with the bevel box and pulleys, as it was more cost effective & expeditious to replace it rather than diagnose & repair, but I'd bet a pinch of snuff Donaldosaurus' had a similar issue with his..
I drove the hundred odd miles back home again with a HUGE grin. You can so easily forget just how unique and addictive these little cars are when you can't have your driving & stroking fix, and the sun was out hot enough and long enough to tan my face to the extent that I looked like Fangio when I took my sunnies off!!
I am so grateful to Team Williams for their help in all this. The slight hiccup at the beginning was easily rectified and I don't know of any other place, automotive or otherwise, that go to such lengths to make customers feel so reassured, and I wouldn't have the car back so quickly had it not been for their combined efforts, so a big thank you to them.
Right...off to check the weather forecast and the maps now...I have a car to drive..!!
