I can only speak for an older car but new ones must be similar in that the steering lock clamps around the steering column with two bolts. If you remove the shroud they should be easily seen. Perhaps they just need a tighten?

I spent ages de rattling my car when I first had it. I drove potty. Had a couple of rattles from what appeared to be behind the dash/steering wheel. One was the wiper rack rattling in its tube and the other was the bonnet hinge. The sheet metal return on the hinge just touched the air filter causing the bonnet to sit slightly high and the hinge would rattle.

Strange how these little noises drive you nuts! It was all done by feel with zero visibility, I didn’t remove the dash. I could just about get my arm up inside and simulate the rattle by wiggling the end of the rack. So a combination of pushing and stressing the outer tube and a little tight fitting plastic sleeve over the portion of protruding rack. A better plan may have been to attempt to strip and grease it. However these noise are so often transient and all is quiet at the moment.
