You have convinced me, if one must tag their M3W along behind, a trailer will be the best, but at the cost of a large trailer versus a tiny tow bar or smaller tow dolly.

No warranty, gearbox, belt or BB issues though with a trailer.

Surely the only way to tow is on a flat bed trailer - or a modified trike trailer - if it could take the weight?

Other solutions are just asking for trouble!!IMHO!!!

I have a hydraulic 4 wheel tipping trailer for sale, ideal for M3W as it needs no ramps.

IMHO I would never trust on a 2 wheel trailer.

Agreed. I have a two-wheel trailer with a load limit of 750kg. I was transporting that weight of wood and I had the Honda's cruise control set at 90kph. I entered an uphill bend (which can be taken much faster without a trailer) and there was some loud tyre squeal. In the mirror I saw the trailer in serious oversteer, about 30 degrees out of line!

I suspect that towing a vehicle (other than on a trailer) may be illegal in some European contrives.

Two wheeled trailers do have their place. I used a one ton two wheeled box trailer for years with no problems, as long as it is built correctly with the axle in the correct place and a decent noseweight, it works fine. I cannot remember any incidents with it in 20 years of use and abuse. Much easier to move around by hand too.

Having said that, I well remember bringing a recently purchased compact tractor with front loader and back hoe attached, back from Devon to Somerset, on a 16' double axle car transporter, and anything over 45mph would start it swinging. I gave in to temptation on one particularly long downhill section of motorway, and nudged 50mph, I was lucky to get away with using just all three lanes, and not the hard shoulder and centre armco as well. That was a lesson learned! Still got the little tractor though.

The manual gearbox that Rover used for the SD1 model was lubricated with TQF (auto trans fluid) and this was pumped around the box with a pump driven from the input shaft.

I don't personally know of an other example, but there probably are are others.

The issue of rating a car for towing is a legal one, and not something I know much about. However, none of the Ford Ka models are so rated and my belief is it's a structural/tow bar mounting issue and nothing to do with any lf the engines or gearboxes that might be fitted.

There are issues applying to trailed weights but most folk reading this have B+E on their licence so don't care. Youngsters will though.
