Dear all, I am new to owning this type of car and would really appreciate help with how to change the bevel box oil. I have all the equipment, (I think) and have studied the threads and pictures submitted by laurens etc which are very helpful (I have my oil can ready..!). Could someone please confirm for me with reference to the attatched picture where 1)the old oil comes out and (I assume the bolt with the inverted red chevron above it) 2)where I put the new oil in.(I assume the orange cap) Any further advice that you think relevant would also be appreciated.
Also knkwing how high to fill it/how much to put in/where the indicator is would be helpful to know. I know it is around 320ml but I read there may be thick goo in it.

Meanwhile, if the bevel box has a coagulated grease like substance instead of oil, it is best to run fresh gear oil in it, turn the wheel to distribute the oil, then drain and repeat the procedure until it runs clear and clean. Then it would be advised to check it again in 100 miles or so."
charlestkirby, pls be very careful with this. At the expense of sounding alarmist, the results can be disastrous. My bevel box failed totally locking up the drive train. A pic and discussion is under the thread I started called "has anyone else heard of this happening"
My dealer reported that my problem came from the oil turning to grease and lining the walls of the bb leaving no lubrication for the gears.
The fact the Morgan is not notifying owners of this possibility is amazing to me. Do they just hope the problem will go away?
Yes grey goose I have read your thread a few times. Is a worrying story. one reason why I have chosen to oil change my bevel box. The whine resonance from the power train seems to be getting worse and worse so something needs to be done. Your experience has made me question whether to still use it on the motorway...
I waited to change my bevel box fluids thinking that it had special break-in oils. As it got noisier I went to make the change and was blown away when nothing came out at first, followed by a slow drip of black goo. I flushed it out ten times trying to get the goo out and filled it with Redline Shockproof gear oil, SAE 75W250, that flows like 75W90 and it has brought new life to the box. It's cut down the noise dramatically and has save the box from going right into the junk pile. I'm changing the (pink) gear oil now every 300 miles to continue to clean out the goo but I also think the internals make a lot of gear friction/wear as it's never pink colored for long. It seems the more I change the oil the more quiet it gets. This pink oil is very thick and slow going down the funnel but you can't miss when it's full smile
The fastest way to change the BB oil is to drive the rear wheel up an a 2"x4" wood plank. now I can get to the bottom 24mm drain plug along with getting a catch can underneath to catch the old oil. Take out the rear boot tray. I use a funnel with a rubber hose to snake down from the rear boot with a small adapter to make the larger hose size smaller to fit into the upper fill hole just above the drain plug. Two man job with one holding the hose in the hole and the other above filling the funnel. Got it down to 15 minutes now. http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=44&pcid=4

Great info - anxiously awaiting an update about the affected bevel boxes.
Thanks jvs, I read that post in the other thread. I am thinking about putting in a permanent such hose set up for quick changes and so I dont wear out the boot tray/ash screw threads. Is the 24mm drain plug the bolt in the middle of my attachment picture in-line with the main shaft ?
