Travelling in to Dublin today, nice morning with roof down on the 4/4.

K&N filter and home made ram air system installed. Car going very well and the additional (cheap) horsepower very noticeable!

However, there was one blot on the landscape. The horn started to come on by itself on my relatively new Moto-Lita steering wheel. Then (on the motorway) it came on and stayed on. I had to pull over, lever up the horn and disconnect it.

Anyone have this experience before? Any obvious fix?

If the horn is now in the boss it sounds like a faulty boss short circuitng.

"The horn started to come on by itself"

I have a similar problem when I am watching Countdown, or any other programme with Rachel Riley in it!

However, I would pull the horn assembly from the hub (if its an alloy one they are an interference fit with a rubber O ring and so should just pull out) make sure the wire going to the central terminal is not loose and shorting somewhere, after that it could be a trapped horn wire under the boss (that requires tools) or a short in the steering column electrical block connector. As a temp fix you could just pull the wires from the horn/s?

Philip fitted a Klaxon to my +8 when he had it. I am wondering if it is legal to use it instead of the normal horn as it sometimes doesn't work.

Had no idea who Rachel Riley is so with help from Dr Goggle I now understand the extent of your problem.

There was no way to share my problem without risking any interesting responses! I am surprised no one mentioned a cold shower!!

I will take the wheel and boss off and check my wiring. Many thanks for all the helpful advice. I also Googled Rachel Riley and she is not the problem....

As a cop I would say its legal. Only musical horns and alternating two tones are illegal as far as I am aware.
