There was no way to share my problem without risking any interesting responses! I am surprised no one mentioned a cold shower!!
I will take the wheel and boss off and check my wiring. Many thanks for all the helpful advice. I also Googled Rachel Riley and she is not the problem....
G The horn is actuated by earthing the black wire that passes through the hub and connects to the horn push, it is possible to have a short in the horn push itself, you could test the wire by connecting one wire from a test lamp to feed and the other wire to the end of the horn wire at the connector to the horn push. It should not illuminate, if you push/pull the wire and shake the wheel around it should not complete the circuit and the light should stay off, if it does this it points to a faulty horn push, if the light flashes on it points to an intermittent closed circuit (short) in the horn earth wire.

My money is on the horn push dying.
Can't find the law on the issue and as I don't want one, I'll leave it, but I had the idea that 'Dixie' horns etc were legal on pre 73 cars.
You'd have to be a bit sad though to fit one!

"The horn started to come on by itself"
I have a similar problem when I am watching Countdown, or any other programme with Rachel Riley in it! Thee's not the only one. Now that should increase the views of TM when people do a search for the lovely RR and TM forum comes up in the results!!

You'd have to be a bit sad though to fit one! You are correct Construction and Use Regs 37 & 99 state that any vehicle first used on or after 1 August 1973 shall be continuos, uniform and not strident. The exception being for use as an alarm. In other words first reg before that date perfectly legal. You could argue that the Klaxon doesn't comply because it's not "uniform" but to be honest I don't think anyone would push that. It would be arguable in court. So keep your Klaxons.

The horn started to come on by itself on my relatively new Moto-Lita steering wheel. Then (on the motorway) it came on and stayed on. I had to pull over, lever up the horn and disconnect it.
Anyone have this experience before? Any obvious fix?
Garret I had that problem with the Roadster. Turned out that the wire to the horn push has a female ( calm down you lot!) spade connector which mates with a male connector rivetted on to the push. This rivet had broken & the now loose end just shorted where ever it fancied, sounding the horn as it went Ian

Last year. It's the fire engine that was used to fight the Great Fire of Little Chesterford ( our village ) back in 1914. I managed to buy it back from a dealer in Kent ( you probably know of him!) & got it back in steam in time for the centenery of the fire this April. Great fun to play with if you've got a good supply of water! Ian
