I can't remember whether I've posted this on here before, so apologies if I'm repeating myself... but the recent handful of posts on old planes reminded me.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage museum owns and operates the second of two Lancasters flying today - the other, of course, is part of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. This August, Canada's Lanc is flying (via Goose Bay, Narsasuak and Keflavik) to Coningsby, due to arrive on August 8. It will then undergo some testing and crew training at Coningsby before joining BBMF for a series of airshows across the country until mid-September.

The opportunity to see two Lancasters flying together is being billed as a "once in a lifetime" opportunity: the last time it happened was apparently 50 years ago over Toronto when they were retired from service with RCAF in 1964.

Further details are on the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's website here http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx

If they took it to Scampton they could line up with the one which only has taxi rights at present. So three in a row. That would be a sight for sore eyes.

The Canadian and BBMF Lancasters will hopefully be joining the Vulcan at one of our local airships so should be worth a visit

I didn't know there was another one with taxiing capabilities. There's one of those over here as well, in a tiny town in southern Alberta somewhere. It's not likely ever to be restored to full airworthiness, but there was a piece on TV earlier this year that they'd just run-up all 4 engines and taxied under its own power.

See here for all three:
Lancasters

NX611 (the aircraft that gives taxy rides) is hoped to return to the air, but it's not exactly a simple process:
NX611 to the air

To see all three might be a never to be repeated chance as although they are flying a northern route, taking any older aircraft across the Atlantic is a major undertaking. I'd not bet on the Canadian Lancaster doing it again, ever.

I heard that they plan to have all three running together (so presumably at Scampton), that'll be some sound!

Am booked to go to The Just Jane (taxy only) drome and then see the two flying Lancs as fly - over on Sept 2nd.

Dad flew from RAF Scampton and was involved in a full Tour - including some of the mass bombing raids.

Looking back it affected him significantly. He would never discuss the war or his flying...all we could could get out of him was .." we were freezing cold and frightened to death..thats all u boys need to know.."

Have some great pics of Dad and his crew mates on my wall!!

They were v brave - climbing into their "coffins" night after night:(( gloomy

Dad was 19 when he first flew and 23 when he finished one of the v lucky ones - the attrition rate was about 50%:(( scared
