Good and interesting posts Matty and in your short ownership period you've pretty we'll experienced it all!
I don't think we are going to get much out of Steve Morris by just winging here, apart from getting things off our chest, what we need to do is to officially ask for a cohesive and doable course of action for all pre 2014 cars, and I think some extra warranty time has to be right up there.
As Matty says, 10 years is out of the question, but would an extra year, plus further extended warranty at a cost, be of interest? I might suggest that something like £100 pa up to, say, 5 years old and maybe 20,000 miles, then £250 pa after that up to 75,000 miles.
I'm not sure they would even consider moving on their policy of charging for a replacement Centa comp. as I suspect they would point out that the price of new cars has risen by £1000 or so, and this could be due to the extra costs of the upgraded gear, including the comp. which is probably being done at cost anyway.
I feel that a solution has to be acceptable to both the company and the owners?
Once we have decided on a reasonable compromise, we can write an open letter to Steve, who I know is quite a reasonable and fair man, within the constraints of having to run a profitable business, with shareholders who will want an explanation and may not be quite so understanding.
He will, of course already know of our proposals, as this is an open forum, but he will need to be approached directly about things. It s a good proposition

If MMC are reluctant to extend the warranty, they are, by this very act, admitting that they themselves know (and admit) the cars are un-reliable. Not sure that this is wholly true as a statement as time itself can cause issues as will mileage regardless of how good the car was to start with.

For my part, i would be interested to know what the policy of the company would be in case a chassis breaks outside the warranty period. ... Notwithstanding risk of injury in case of failure with the producer aware of defects on the early models. I presume the resultant law suit would nudge them along ... I am strongly in favor of an extended warranty, just not all on my dime.

There does seem to be a groundswell of support for an extended warranty.

I think extending the warranty would help us all, restoring confidence and help residual values.
If Morgan Motor Company were able to give us an extended warranty say for 24 months or even 12 months, just covering the engine, drive train and chassis, I would be happy and sleep better at night. Hopefully by the time this extended warranty runs out, there will be solutions in place for the problems some of us have experienced.
I didn't buy my car to sell and at the moment I am having great fun with it, so not too concerned about values of the car, but I do worry about facing a major bill to repair my car out of warranty. I might then be forced to sell my car. I have had the compensator and bevel box replaced in March of this year along with the upgrades. I have a few minor issues at the moment, nothing major. You would get this with any car. I am just under 3,000 miles.
The above is my view based on my experience of the car, I know others have had a different experience and will have a different view. I think we all have one thing in common, we all wanted a car from the motor industry that is totally different than some of the massed produced boring cars on offer today. The M3W is certainly different! You just have to drive down the road to be reminded of that! ...or follow behind in a 4 wheel Mog to realise that it's like wearing an invisibility cloak when there's an M3W with you.... Nothing more re-assuring than being on a Mog run when you have 4 wheeled Morgans in the squadron, especially when the 4 wheeled Morgan is the squadron leader and takes you down a dirt track with grass down the middle! I agree, PaulJ's proposition is probably the best way to go.
I also agree that my original suggestion of a 10 year warranty is way beyond what we can expect but why not start high and expect to be bartered down. It would at least make the cars a lot more attractive to the second or even third owner and perhaps enhance the residual value.
A scale of warranty work could be agreed with the factory and be based on time or distance covered, whichever is greater.
I have done 6500 miles in the 15 months of ownership and 3 of these months it was off the road for repairs/upgrades following breakdowns. I know there are some owners who have done much higher mileages than this but there are also some that do very few miles a year. Having had most of the upgrades done I am now happy with the car and have no intention of selling it for the foreseeable future but at 67 I do not know exactly how long it will be before old age prevents me from driving it. When this time comes I would like to think I don't have to virtually give it away.

There does seem to be a groundswell of support for an extended warranty.
What good is an extended warranty if; 1) you don't have access to a dealer. 2) your local dealer is reluctant or refuses to do repairs because Morgan does not compensate them for the proper amount of time to do the work. 3) parts are not available for months at a time. 4) Morgan continues to use substandard parts to replace broken ones unless owners pay to upgrade (centa compensator, comfort steering package, bevel box noise isolation, cooling fan etc). If we're going to live in dreamland that Morgan will step up and do something, I'd settle for half my purchase price refunded. At least then I could buy parts, fabricate or reengineer the substandard stuff needed. Extending the warranty would be nice but without addressing the root issues it's just a bandage to a failing system.
