So delivered the car to BHM this morning for some new king pins.
Then next week off for a few days in North France to trace some of the steps my Great uncle took in the first world war, before he was mortally wounded in 1917.
Have managed to obtain a copy of his battalions war diaries so we can see where he fought around Ypres and also in the Somme.

I'm planning a similar trip next year. My great grandmother's favourite younger brother 2nd Lt Alwyn Chadwick Hobson Royal Life Guards was killed on May 13th 1915 in the 2nd battle of Ypres. My 3rd christian name is Alwyn, given to me to help keep his memory alive. I have the Scroll of honour with it's covering letter, both signed by George V which were sent to his grieving family. I plan to go up there on the centenary of his death on 13th May next year to find his name on the Menin gate and to pay my respects.
I posted more detail about him last year when we were discussing the same subject.
Giles. Mogless in Paris.
