I am considering including paint protection film as an option, does anyone have it and can it be recommended? Is it noticeable and does it age well?

Well worth having done, but the cost is quite high. Protects the vulnerable paint areas like front and rear wings from the inevitable stone chips. Its hardly noticeable and I haven't seen any discolouration on any car that I have protected.

Sounds good, it's a £510 option but I think it may be worth it for the stone chip issue. I am just a tad concerned that it would detract from the "authentic" look of the car. Does it just go on the wings and wheel arches or do they put it on the doors and bonnet?

Front wings, around the cowl, rear wings adjacent to the door, and running boards, if you don't have tread rubbers. Might be elsewhere but I think thats the majority of places.

I bought the protective film from 3M and spent many happy hours doing myself. Cost was about £60. It takes a lot of patience, so I suspect the extra cost is really the labour.

My protection is on rear wings to top of arch; front wings same PLUS the immediate surround of the radiator grille (think SuperSport -the yellow painted area on bonnet is equivalent) and also on the running boards for full length of doors. NOTHING is on the doors themselves.

Not noticeable from about 6 feet or more : closer than that, you can see the edges (just). No discoluration after 5 years BUT I do have a couple of black scuff marks from shoes that will not come off with standard cleaning materials. I just think of these as "patina".

+1 it's tricky to fit, preparation is the key, creating a template and then cutting it out with a sharp modellers knife, then sliding into place using slight soapy water on the panel, and then getting bubbles out with a plastics card wrapped in a slippery material. It takes patience and time. There are companies out there that will do it but at a cost.

Anyone tried the 3M Defender Spray Film?

William's fitted mine. I think it was called "Defendall"?

Dust on a dark car noticeable at the film edges, and stones still strike just beyond the film!

Around £350,takes a specialist to fit - and worth the money I think as paint repair would cost much more. Areas around cowl, front and rear faces of wings and outer edges of running boards.

The so-called Magic Erasers or Magic Sponges will get these marks off very effectively (they really are magic!). Some are once-only use, other can be used several times. Those I am using currently are made by the company that makes Flash and are available in supermarkets. As for protective film, I have Defendall fitted to front wings, wheel arches, cowl and outer edge of the running boards. The appearance is so subtle I hardly notice it. Just had to go to the garage to remind myself where it is applied. The edges sometimes pick up a little dirt but, once again, a wipe with a Magic Eraser gets rid of it.
