Quick question - I'm have a friend who TIG welds make a new aluminum radiator to fit in the mog. Not the exact same dimensions as the original, but should cool much better. I'm going to have him weld on a bung for the coolant temperature sensor, but noticed that the front bung on the thermostat housing (occupied currently by a plug) is the same thread as the sensor. Could I just screw the sensor into the thermostat housing instead? The only difference I would expect is that it would be mounted prior to the thermostat so would probably show the car warming up sooner.

Seems to be the obvious place for it to me - it would show the temperature of the coolant circulating around the block, not in the radiator. I assume it is for a temp gauge, not an electric fan switch.
