Having recently fitted the Morgan supplied stainless mirror, the whole mirror unit came adrift at the start of a weekend away.

It seems that tightening of the supplied grub screw contributed to the separation.

The question is, what glue should I use to re-attach the unit to the windscreen on my 4/4.

Any other (polite!) advice welcome.

It's not as much the glue but the cleanliness of the glass. The little swabs of cleaner are just not enough. Get yourself a bottle of acetone from Bunnings and some windscreen glass glue from a Repco/Supercheap and you'll be fine.

Also make sure all old glue is removed.

I had the same issue until I was told about needing acetone. Been stuck solid for two years now.

I used Araldite on my Plus 4. It has stayed attached for 3 months now and shows on sign of weakening.

Halfords sell a specific glue for sticking mirrors back on at £12.00.
But it must be done in a warm environement - I heated screen and bracket with a hairdryer to get it to stick - at third attempt - then it worked very well.

On both of the Mogs we have, had our Mirrors have fallen off early on under warranty.

The dealers engineer uses a special Double Sided Adhesive Mesh Tape as used by the factory. (you probably have some of this to remove from the back of yours? I did.) idea

Neither Mirrors moved since, so it would appear that the original pre attachment cleaning was not done well enough?? somestick

Never use "normal" superglue or I am told this will crack the glass.

The best thing I've found is to nip into your local Ford dealer and ask for the double-sided pads they use for the rear-view mirrors in Fiestas and the like.
You'll just have to cut around the pads to get the right shape for your mirror, but it's a very simple job, and they're pretty cheap, too. ( Get a couple just in case...)
And make sure your screen is really clean.
Good luck.

+1 you beat me to it, never found anything better than the Ford mirror pads and they are cheap enough you can purchase a couple at a time, one for your next Morgan when it arrives
wink

I can confirm this!
Many years ago the windscreen of my car got a crack from one side to the other due to the use of superglue for mounting the mirror shocked2
The coefficient of expansion for glass and metal is slightly different. The "glue" has to be able compensate this if there are variations of temperature!
