If you reverse the direction that would mean some very hot air from around the cylinders being drawn past the electric fan motor, not ideal. It works well as it is, why change it?

Ok,but then its also not ideal when driving slow as its pushing air against the airflow..
So when you really think about it,It only helps cooling when stationary

I thought that was the idea of it, to cool the engine when the car is not moving and getting a flow of cooling air past the fins.

Yes thats the idea of it..and your 100% correct...take your time reading the thread.what I'm saying is that its not practical when it starts to operate under 10 km/mph as its pushing air against the airflow...thats all...got it?

I think you'll find that the fans is pretty powerful and will be able to push the air usefully through and past the engine up to maybe 20+km/h, so we really shouldn't worry unnecessarily about whether it works or not (I am sure the factory did proper testing). Of more concern to me is the look and noise to be frank, so I am going to work on a solution of my own that is manual and more discrete....

I had a laptop running the S&S diagnostic software connected to my car at the weekend ( described at length in other threads ).

One of the many interesting dials it displays is the engine temp ( for each cylinder ! )
When the fan starts the engine temp stabilizes ( stops increasing ) and lowers a few degrees and hovers around 130 degrees F - this is when stood at idle for over 5 mins, occasionally blipping the throttle.
An A/B test with a car without fan would be interesting .... not taking mine off though smile

As for the look and noise , now I have it fitted I have got used to both , I like the way the larger cover between the cylinders hides everthing away , and it's strangely reassuring to hear the fan cutting in . I much prefer it to skip fire mode which always made me feel anxious !
