I must have had that problem too. In my case the seat belt light would not go off. Fixed by Borghi during routine service.

Wiring for seat belt 'nanny light' gets trapped in seat runner as you adjust it. Hit a big bump and the wire strips its plastic coating and shorts out on the metal seat runner. Yet another new and exciting feature of the seat runners on Morgans.

I picked up my car yesterday - a new Plus 4.
It revs beautifully - showing (but audibly not doing) 5000 rpm doing 30mph in third on the inaugural trip home....
Even better revs were to come.... 59 miles later, at home on the driveway, it was indicating a steady 6100 rpm while stationary with the ignition key on the kitchen table.

My Duratec Plus 4 had a similar issue. Note the instruments are a different make to your GDI. The problem used to clear itself after being switched off for about an hour. Best get your dealer to take a look. If it is a intermittent fault can I suggest you take a video of the problem on your phone so that you can show them what happens.

Yes,
When I got home I phoned the dealer to say that the tachometer went up to 7500 rpm before settling down to 6100 (where it remained). I was a bit taken aback to receive a bollocking about the importance of running in the car by not exceeding 4000 rpm for the first 300 miles. Given that I drove back very gingerly while I got used to the gentle braking capability, I am confident that I didn't get anywhere near 4000 rpm - despite the tachometer reading!
The tachometer reset, as yours did, via 8000 rpm when I started the engine. Today I went for a poodle up the A32. The tachometer got to 3000 rpm and obviously liked it there, as that's where the needle still is as I write this.....
Despite this, the GDI engine / exhaust sounds lovely!

Are you letting the car do it's system checks before activating the starter ? On my +4 if you activate the starter before the immobiliser light goes out and everything stops whirring it does the same thing, otherwise it's ok.

I'm taking it out into the New Forest tomorrow, so will make a conscious effort to wait for the whirring to stop! Thanks for the advice.

Yes, that is the correct and recommended procedure. I had my mass air flow sensor changed, at the factory, which apart from one recurrence resolved the wild rev counter readings, I just have the situation where when I switch off and then on again after a run the needle stops at about 1000 rpm / idle speed.
I will probably ask Williams to look at this for me.
I am thinking a replacement rev counter may be the answer.

Very much in the dog house, could be up for rehoming

I just have the situation where when I switch off and then on again after a run the needle stops at about 1000 rpm / idle speed. I occasionally have that problem too. I suspect it is more likely some minor issue with the ECU. With throttle bodies it is also important not to have any pressure on the throttle when you turn on the ignition and you must wait for the pre-start checks to complete. The Omex ECU registers the zero throttle position every time you turn it on so if you have your foot on the throttle the zero position registered will be wrong. I don't think that applies to the standard setup. PS. The instruments are run by the standard ECU. The Omex ECU only runs the engine management.
