Anyone had the pleasure of nearly having your head stoved in by a horse while sat in a M3W. Just curious that's all.
We have quite a lot of the horsey types where I live and I suppose they, the horses, are not used to seeing or hearing the Biscuit Tin, so they do a little dance.
Being the considerate soul that I am I switch off the engine. How-ever the rider still looks at me as though I am something nasty he has trod on.
I firmly believe horses belong in the fields and not on the Queen's highway, especially when the said horses dump all over the road.

And as for horse lorries/trailers that seem to have a maximum speed of 20mph, and much less on corners!

Oooh I know. And cyclists in spandex and funny shaped hats that decide not to use the cycle path but the dual carriageway

My pet hate is cyclists - especially great gobs of them that insist on pedaling along three abreast , as if that makes them safer.

Well agree on that one. But at least they don't try and knock your block off with those huge hooves.

Should really have named this thread 5 pet hates while in the M3W.

There are several reasons why a cycle path may not be used. Often the cycle paths accumulate detritus as cars have a cleaning effect on tarmac and push the stones and rubbish to the side - where the cycle path is.

The reason I don't use cycle paths locally is the council have placed the entry at an angle, thus producing a tipping force on three wheelers (I have to ride trikes - no balance from the ears).

There are some well thought out cycle paths but in my area, I can only think of one. The others are more about meeting targets than actually providing a decent alternative.

The cycle paths I had in mind are the one's away from the road and not on it. These are the ones with a large grass verge between the road and the cycle path.
Round my way the council have spent a fortune on these as they are used all the time.
The cyclists that I was referring to were the ones that choose not to use them.

Horses work on shape, smell and sound. We have found that we often get a bigger reaction to our 4/4 than we do when in a tin top. Some horses struggle to understand something that is outside their previous experience.

And I am a horse rider. I would very much like to never need to ride on the roads - we keep road work to an absolute minimum - but it is not always possible. We are very fortunate in that most drivers are very considerate. One very hairy Harley rider switched off and coasted past us (not sure why as our horses had not reacted) - I wonder if the 2 cylinder beat is the common theme? My horse is normally very good in traffic - just as well really as on the few occasions we do go on the road then we will usually encounter articulated lorries and double decker buses.

The problem with horses is the idiot on the horse and not the horse.

A properly schooled horse and a competent rider is no more of a problem than a pedestrian. Sadly many riders haven't a clue but have a real attitude problem and they ride horses that are not fit to be taken out of a field.

Oh, don't forget third party insurance is optional and you can be certain that the well schooled horse ridden by a competent rider will be insured and the "yummie mummy" on the out of control horse will not.

The problem, as ever, is people. Animals are mostly nice.

We ride. If the horse can't take a M3W or a Hog at 1m distance it has no place to be on the road. If you pass a horse please don't blip the throttle, don't stop, just act naturally and if the horse and rider are competent all will be well.

I use to ride so take care with horses on the road. When riding I always gave a wave of thanks to courteous drivers and motorcyclists. I only ever had one moment with a car.....riding through Porlock, had a very impatient car right up my horses backside. He was very good.....backed up a bit, raised his tail and crapped on the front of the car! The driver was lucky he didn't kick out!
