Mark,
Not to one-up, but I drove my 4/4 from Homestead FL to Monterey CA in the summer of 1978 (Google says 3083 miles, felt like more.) Got the "Most Distance Traveled" award by the Morgan bunch at the Laguna Seca Historic Races. Because of the heat, only drove from sun-up to just after noon through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona--scorching heat from El Paso to LA.
Mercedes was the "Featured Marque" that year at Laguna Seca and I got to see (and hear) the classic '55 W196 driven by Stirling Moss running full bore, desmodromic valves and all

PS Also drove this same car from Woodbridge, Suffolk to Venice, Italy in 1975 (only about 1000 miles) and from Monterey Ca to Ottawa Canada in 1980 (about 3000 miles.) Can't do this anymore--my backside is not as tough as it used to be.

Allen, we do have some traveling souls in MOGSouth! I went to high school in Monterey and did the Concours at Pebble Beach for a good number of years, back when you throw a blanket down between the cars and have a picnic. Not anymore. I tried to get my 1938 DHC in the show at Pebble but they weren't interested. I wanted to see the old homestead.
I haven't taken my 4/4 on too many long distance trips of late. It still runs propane, and that is now very hard to find. I concur about the creature comforts and age. That's one reason my Moss Box Plus 8 went and I drive a 5 Speed with Rack and Pinion on long trips now. See you soon. Cheers,
Mark
