If the Kevlar is touching the sprocket, your belt is worn out.
The Kevlar in a belt is just like a fiberglass car, you do not see the glass as it's inside in the inner layer.
Kevlar is inside the rubber and if there is anything touching the belt, it could be a thin outer layer of nylon. The Kevlar is laid straight like in a bias ply tire core, not necessarily in the belt teeth.
