Thinking I would like to upgrade my headlights rather foolishly I fitted 100 w. H4's. Result blown fuse, melted connection to one headlamp, and now headlamps worked in dim mode and full beam only. So I've removed the dim dip module, thinking this could be the cause; reconnected the wiring loom2 x blue/white joined; black /black Yellow joined, but I still have the same problem, any one have any sensible suggestions, now I've stopped kicking myself!

Perhaps the switch has become damaged too? Do you have a volt metre to check that switch?

Dim Dip? I vaguely recall that from the late 80s. So I did some research and found that it appeared in the UK, and only the UK, in 1987 and was declared illegal by the EU in 1988 and was then discontinued, disappearing by 91 or 92. So Colin's car must have been one of the last with "dim dip".

The dim dip module was essentially a simple voltage dimmer and relay, making the headlamps come on with a dull light when the sidelights are turned on. So it can be totally removed, headlamps need dip and main beam.

Given that daytime running lights are required on all car and van vehicles type approved after Feb 2011 it will be interesting to see how Morgan deals with this whenever they bring out a new model. Possibly the fog lights could be used. Or even better the wing mounted sidelights with a bright enough LED.

So how do the sidelights work on the newer cars without winglights. My 2005 car came with the winglights unconnected and the headlights glow as sidelights....is there a seperate bulb in there? Shows how good the car is, I've never replaced a bulb yet!
I did connect the winglights of course.

Hi Nick, the headlights on newer motors have a sidelight built into the headlight unit. If I remember correctly it is a 5w bulb.

Yes, any NEW model released and type approved since 2011 is supposed to have DRL. I'm not sure if Morgan escapes this because they are a low volume producer or if the product range lives on prior type approvals.

ColsMog, have a look at Morganatica and GoMog.
Working from (poor) memory, remove the DimDip unit (PITA) but you need to add a jumper between two of the connections to give you the dipped beam...
Something I have to do on my '93. DimDip - hate the stupid things...

Where is the dim dip unit located?
