.....One should not have to worry about rusty nuts and screws on a two year old car. It would be unacceptable on a motorbike so why should it be acceptable on an M3W.......
Exactly. For the sake of a trivial amount of material cost a wonderful product is spoilt.

Peter, it sounds from your comments, that the Three Wheeler is not the car for you and never will be. That isn't what I said. It is a wonderful car that I'd love to own, but let down by poor attention to detail in finishing it. On a car built today, or brought to 2014 specification the chassis problem has been sorted, the steering improved to be perfectly good, the compensator sorted and with the right lubrication the bevel box is probably OK. All it needs is to have the interior better finished using quality fittings and fixtures in some places and it is the car it always should have been.

On a positive note, if we are now talking about rusty nuts! Things must be getting better. A valid point though and an easy one to fix.

Harley Davidson make a superb trike for around the £28k mark. Beautifully made, a real work of art and they really know how to produce a top notch machine. In my humble opinion a much better buy than a M3W.

[quote=Aldermog]First drive (ride?) in a M3W today, thanks to Paul at Williams. The car was a 2012, unmodified other than the front dampers and is due to go into the factory for a full upgrade, although the chassis hasn’t actually cracked.
Could anyone clarify what a "full factory upgrade" consists of.

"I take it you mean the car is having a new chassis fitted (or modifying the original) even though the old one isn't cracked ?
Is that instigated by the dealer or the factory ?"
That is exactly what I was wondering. It would be interesting to know who is paying, given that it is now accepted that the chassis are susceptable to cracking, so why should an owner wait until it happens?
Peters 'First drive comments' are interesting, as much for what he feels needs doing as what owners actually find once they have some experience with the car. For example, he states that the steering lock is bad, whereas, in practice, it doesn't have much affect on everyday driving, the same with fit and finish, in practice those little bits pale into insignifcance compared with the bigger problems of the early cars. However, he is right, that Morgan really need to look at the small details, which I think they are doing, now the bigger stuff is sorted. That is always the problem with bringing a product to market before it is really ready.
In fact, I suspect that the way the company put the car into the market initially and the firefighting now involved handling and dealing with the problems associated with putting an underdeveloped car into the market and the costs involved, could be a good example, which could be used in business school, for the wrong way of doing things.
Hindsight, of course, is a real luxury on-one in business has.

Could anyone clarify what a "full factory upgrade" consists of. Suspension comfort kit, NVH bushes for the final drive, fan kit and chassis strengthen or replace. If the chassis has not cracked they weld in the additional braces. The Centa Drive/compensator is replaced if needed, likewise the bevel box. Other than the chassis work Exactly what is done and by whome is down to discussion between the dealer and factory.
