So it sounds like perhaps 2 or maybe 3 of that original list would survive under the TalkMorgan microscope.

Maybe under your moderation gents, we could compile our own TM list and see how it compares?

I think at the moment we have semi agreed on: -

1) Ferrari 250 GTO

2) Ford Mustang (we need to decide on a type; my vote would be for the 1965 Shelby Mustang GT-350)

3) Ford GT40

4) Mini (which variant?)

5) VW Beetle

6) Porsche (356A Speedster? 550 Spyder? 1973 2.7 RS?)

What about the Lotus Super 7? E9 CSL Batmobile?

Others?

(the above are in no particular order... we can argue that when we have agreed the top 10 )

No list of iconic cars ever produced can ignore the Model T Ford, or can it?

I would add a Jag E-type but this has some similar lines to the d-type which is simular to a c-type so as the first lines were taken from the c-type probably this would be the Icon that other are based round as for Iconic I think may be the e-type.

Neil, I would go with the E-Type Jag (Mark 1) as an iconic motor. To my mind, it is one of 'those cars' that people associate with the 1960s and England. (Not sure how much Austin Powers had to do with this )

The problem with a discussion like this is the fact that everyone's definition of an icon is probably very different. The main reason for this is down to our respective ages. Icons tend to be more in the past rather than present day and what is iconic to me is representative of a time in my life when cars were more of an unachievable passion/interest due to the fact that I was 14-17 years old. An icon was a dream to me I guess. Similarly with iconic songs or iconic movies, very rarely are they from last year. So based on the fact that I am in my very early 30's, I do actually remember the Integrale being a icon to me, similarly the E30 M3 when it came out. Even the Jaguar XJS V12 seemed iconic to me at the time. Then there was the Porsche 959 and the Ferrari F40 and I will never forget the first time I saw a Lamborghini Countach in central london. There I was salivating over the rear tyres as a spotty teenager when the owner arrives back to his car. What an arrogant sod he was as well. The Lotus Esprit always had a special place with me as well. Who can forget the Testarossa as well? Then I got to the age of 21 and watched the movie Bad Boys and will never forget the 911 Turbo in that (was it a 993?).

Agree about the Shelby Mustang GT and can see why the Mclaren F1 always gets a mention and it would be rude to dismiss the VW Beetle and Mini.

i would argue that a true iconic car would actually transcend age demographics for the most part. Otherwise would they not just be cars that you lusted after as a teen?

I would agree with the F40, Countach and 959. I think you could argue that they are all inconic in the perspective realm of supercars.
