Hi all, looking for some advice on a sporadic warning light on my 1992 Plus 4.

Recently when out and about on a long drive in my 92 Plus 4 I ahve noticed a light flashing on the day briefly under heavy braking. The light is the same light that comes on when the handbrake is pulled. (An exclamation mark).

I assume that it is a multifunction light that not only signifies the hand brake is on but also wanrs of some other issue? I can't find my manual to look it up but will do a web search right now.

I assume that it is either fluid related and thus only coming on when fluid is moving around due to braking or is brake related. Worn pads?

Any feedback would be very welcome.

My handbook (Plus 4) tells me that if it is not the handbrake then the fluid in the brake master cylinder is below the safe operating level, and if the light comes on while driving you must "stop the car immediately in a safe and responsible (!) manner".

I am no expert but initially I thought that maybe your handbrake cable was moving, causing the 'on' light switch to trip.

But as zooming in on these three photos show, the switch must be located under or in front of the Hand Lever?

Maybe there is a short caused by Vibration or forward movement of the switch linkage? All guesswork, I'm afraid,
Frank

Hmm so continuing to drive rapidly to Goodwood was perhaps not wise smile

Thanks Frank. What makes me think it is unrelated to a mechanical switch/linkage with hand brake is that it appears to only happen when the car has been driven hard and on a long journey. You'd have thought it would manifest itself immediately if it was simply a slipping cable.

May be low brake fluid if the pads are worn this may bring on the low fluid warning light when braking or cornering as the fluid moves around.

My 4/4 did that. The rear brake cylinders were leaking and the level would dip below minimum on heavy breaking
