Odd on my Roadster they drop like normal car. In fact the idle is so low & so quiet you think it has stalled.
I don't remember my 94 Zetec doing that but then it was chipped I wish my V6 did...it used to do as described, but of late it refuses to drop to 800 or so, sits resolutly at 1300. Peter, perhaps the Throttle Position Sensor needs a nudg. I discussed the TPS with the Ford guy. The TPS is fitted in a fixed position and can only be adjusted by drilling the bolt holes to allow for another position. He had the following advice for me (I can't give any advice on this ) Clean the throttle housing especially around the butterfly valve, check the TPS connector voltage between earth (brown) and the middle terminal (when idling) - it should read 0.7 - 0.8 volts. If above 0.8 there's a risk of idling problems. -Milligoon: It could well be so, but regarding the 4/4 I think it's different - in one way or the other... just a hunch though

Peter If I understand you right you are describing the same issue I posted one or two years ago as "rev hang" on my 2008 Series 2 Roadster, I drove until 2010. The only real and very good solution was that MMC changed the ECU via my dealer without charging any costs under warranty. After plugging in the new ECU the rev hang was completely gone and the car, as an add on benefit, delivered a much stronger and more willingly acceleration. Of course I don't know how MMC got this replacement ECU to work properly or if the knowledge to reprogramme it is "inhouse" still today or not.

Hmm a thing to investigate what else does the ECU think is on?
Mine since yesterday around about 800 rpm at idle after warming up, today I noticed it a shade under 1000rpm when the radiator fan was on at idle, so I wonder if idle is adaptive to load?
