I think we all remember the posting from Greygoose, here: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/200157/Has_anyone_else_heard_of_this_#Post200157 telling us how his BB locked up solid at highway speed, and the photo he attached of the long skid mark?

I can't help but wonder if the oil in his BB had 'clumped' and was not providing any lubricating qualities whatsoever, and as a consequence, this caused his fiance, who was driving, this frightening scenario. Just think what would happen with the UK crowded roads, if that happened here?

We haven't heard from him recently, I wonder how things are going with his repair claim?

This additive over a period of time has been found to bond with the oil and forms clumps within the box, this can result in the gears not getting sufficient lubricant when required. It is essential that vehicles produced between these two dates have the bevel box oil changed, we recommend turning the rear wheel while filling with oil to flush any debris through the system (obviously as we recommend this is done at first service 1000 miles or 3 months whichever is first, all affected vehicles should now have passed through there dealer and the oil changed). "

You can always find than owners are capricious.

As you can read in my first post we had an oil service on both cars and the Swiss dealer/importer (Abt Automobile) told me that he changed the bevel box oil as well.
After that oil change I went back with the Gulf for the change from the standard bevelbox oil to the Omega oil.
Drove about 1000 km with the standard oil.
I witnessed that the dealer took out the standard oil (which came out fluent) and filled it with the Omega oil.
Almost sure he didn’t flush at the first oil change and certainly (seen myself) not flushed the second oil change.
Why was the standerd oil in my wife’s car clumped after about 2000 km and why came the oil in the Gulf out fluent after 1000km?
Why was the oil in the Gulf clumped after about 3000 km of use?

If what Paul is writing that the cause of Greygoose accident is caused by this clumped oil how many M3W’s driving now with a ticking time bomb ??
I know that in Germany, France, Italy and more countries there are M3W drivers who don’t read this forum just because they don’t speak or read English.
How do they know that they are driving with a time bomb ?

Or…. do I see all wrong and gives the clumped oil still enough lubrication to do a non stop 400 km ride on the ‚Autobahn’ at a speed of 140 km with an outside temperature of 32C ??

Isn’t it weird that MMC put something in (as experiment) what need to be flushed several times before one get rid of it ?
Why MMC haven’t posted a kind of warning with this information on the forum ??
Or….does also MMC don’t know and we all bought a part of the MMC experiment called M3W ?

Please don’t see this all that we don’t like our M3W’s, we still love them and having fun with it but……..in today’s traffic one can’t drive with such a possible risk.
Also don’t forget that one is very, very vulnerable in any accident with this kind of vehicle !

Dear MMC please take your responsibility !!!

It would be useful if MMC was a little more precise on this. Are these installed BB on new cars, replacements BB? Can they not give either chassis numbers or reference numbers of the installed BB? Sure they must be ISO in some way and keep track of what and where they are installing. Sorry only joking innocent

Just changed my BB OIL this weekend...on the advice of my dealer-after the GreyGoose's lockup...

I had the same issue as Laurens, thick black goo that needed some serious flushing.

To be honest, I only flushed the box twice, with Red Line 80/140...frankly It still took some serious agitation with a pipe cleaner to get some of the black goop out...and I'm sure there is still 25% - 50% of the old goo/oil in there...a very dirty job.

I topped the bevel box off till some oil leaked through the fill hole. I plan to drive the car gently around town for a week or so, and then do another change. Hopefully that will allow the new oil to mix with the goo and allow a proper flush.

I did this change outside, in 100 degree weather after letting the car sit in the direct sun for 4 hours and then driving for 20 minutes, and the goo way still as thick as molasses...

I worried about flushing with gasoline or another solvent, but frankly, I can't imagine this goop clearing easily without 3 or 4 changes...

When you say,you topped the bevel box off till some oil leaked through the fill hole.the fill hole above the drain plug?
Is anyone sure the level of that oil fill hole, lis like of the orange fill hole underneath the seats?

I assumed the hole with the orange cover was a breather of some sort, not a fill hole. Maybe I'm wrong?

I filled via the orange screw cap hole located behind the seats, accessed by removing the metal plate behind the seats....is that wrong? Does filling to that point overfill the box?
