The worst plates in my view were the ones fitted to the Rover 75s...huge strangely shaped things.
Talking about legality though......how about the ones stuck on the front wings of Plus4 Supersports? Are they going to get pulled by the police or fail MOTs? Good point on the supersports. The first model V12 Vanquish had a similar rear plate to the Rover 75... Horrid.

Whether they will or not though is another matter. When I put the paint and sticker on Woodstock (in 1989), the rules were different and the only real concern from the policeman I asked was could it be read with the mk1 eyeball at the requite distance. These days though, no one puts their postcode as a maker on sticker plates so none of them are 'approved'. There were words to this effect on the DVLC site, but as its been revamped, may not be there now.

"I've only ever had one issue in the UK and that was at one of the Morgan Centenary events; when a beligerent owner took exception to the plate; telling me it had no right to be on the car and "diminished the integrity of the MSCC" I restrained myself from telling him what to do, but the lovely Lady Budster's look of distain left him in no doubt. Her theory is that people like him have very small . . . "

I only the run the black and silver plates on my older Morgans. They seem to fit better. Funny thing though, I went to the DMV to register my 38 DHC, UK Registration CUY 503, following completion of its restoration, hoping to get some 'Vanity' plate commemorating something, anything, as long as it could have the Number CUY 503.
As it turned out the the normal Florida license CUY 503 was not taken, and I could have it. Now I drive with only the old black and silver UK plates, but keep the Florida plate under the seat, just in case I am ever stopped. I doubt it will happen though. Cheers,
Mark

I'm just about to put a vallance on the front of my 2012 4/4 and move the reg to the wing like the P4SS- is that illegal if the backing is reflective?

Isn't there a requirement for plates to be flat? I can't remember, and at present can't be R'sed to trawl the C&U regs... Though I suppose factory must have checked before putting stickies on the +4SS More please!

C&U state, where there is provision made on the vehicle for an index plate it should be so fixed. Otherwise it should be fixed vertically or as near so as practicable. If the original provision is not there I would think that to fix a reflective sticky to the most vertical section of the wing would be ok. I really can't imagine anyone being so desperate as to give a ticket for it.
