Have you been in a competition car with a Quaife transmission? Very noisy! It's all down to little or no sound deadening. Take that out of a road car and you would be surprised how noisy transmission components can be.

Hmm, there's something going on there! They refer customers to MMC and it is more than difficult to get anything meaningful out of MMC. Really, what is going on? What a way to run a business and a very sad state of affairs.

I can't even imagine my happiness if I felt we were getting SOME KIND of factory support. I wonder if maybe the factory does not have any answers? PaulJ came up (with Empire of course) with the suspension solution--the factory did not! Is this the action of a responsible manufacture? How long has it been now since an Email was sent to the factory re the BB oil mystery. All this makes me feel really secure as an 3W owner.

Morgan's response to the issues on the M3W place them in the lowest category I can imagine.

The old management team have been blamed for the past poor quality/customer relations but the time for the new management team to get a grip on these issues in fact running out.

Over filling a unit such as this will not harm it, other than possibly spitting oil out the vent.
But what it does is rob hp from your driveline.
You're floating all the parts in the BB in oil and not light oil at that. There is a LOT of drag and you only need "enough" oil to keep the parts lubed and cooled.
Why do you think motor builders use windage trays under the crank, to keep the oil from the pan getting on the crank throws and costing precious power.
When we ship gearboxes out on our equipment, they're filled to the manufacturer's specs and usually there is a "fill level" hole about 1/3 the way up the case. This amount of oil is more than sufficient to lube and even our gearboxes get hot enough that they are hot to the touch.
Again, if the BB quiets down with over filling them and they don't puke out the oil, you're probably not going to notice any lost hp with your seat of the pants dyno.
Good luck to all on the BB lube issues.
Have a great weekend to all!!! Great points Dan...I also felt the difference in height between the two "fill holes" was negligible, so I'm not too worried. In regard to silence on this issue, sadly I suspect the real concern is legal liability...

Seeing how there's been no definitive answer from someone in the know, and all the speculation done by everyone, we really don't know which port is truly the fill level hole.
I have been running mine filled to the "vent" since I did the first service on it and have had no problems and it runs more quietly.
In all the years I've been working on cars and equipment I have yet to see a gear box that isn't filled up to the sight port. VW, Porsche transaxles and pretty much every straight axle rear end as a couple of examples.
As far as loosing horsepower, 4-6 oz of additional fluid is not going to create enough drag that you would notice.
Windage trays in race engine keep the high speed rotating mass of the engine out of the splashing oil in the oil pan. Those parts have their own pressurized oiling passages and do not rely on an oil bath for lubrication.
Where as the gears in a rear end or gear box spin much slower and rely on being dipped in oil for lubrication. So that isn't a very good comparison to make a point about drag.
And contrary to opinions expressed you aren't going to blow the seals out or ruin bearings by having "too much" oil.. There's a vent in the top port for a reason, to equalize pressure as the oil expands and contracts due to temp changes.

BUMP!
This is the task at hand today, so I figured that I might as well make this thread easier for me to find while on my desktop so when in the garage later on I can locate it easily on the mobile.
