I've got everything crossed that Scotland votes to remain in the Union. The No campaign just seems to have concentrated on trying to scare nationalists with a load of trivial stuff about the viability of Scotland as an independent country, rather than focusing on the bigger picture.
As a United Kingdom we have achieved so much together, both for our own nation and for the world. Democracy, the enlightenment, science, culture, sport and so much more. All of this has been a joint venture; how awful to throw it away in the search of some inward looking identity.
Read the offerings of the SNP and replace the words Scotland and Scottish with England and English; it then all sounds horribly Xenophobic. Perhaps Dr Johnson is not the most suitable person to quote, (in view of his love of baiting the Scots), but he absolutely nailed it when he said that "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel"
Great Britain is a wonderful country, we have so much more in common than the things that divide us. Let's hope that we can keep it that way.

Pandy,
you are correct, but politicians and the Media have taken over.
I'm leaving the country tomorrow to ensure I don't have to listen to the endless wittering of so called experts and the like.
Whatever the result it will diminish the United Kingdoms.

I find it amazing that suddenly all our panicking politicians are promising to blow our cash on one part of the union instead of focussing on the reality of the impact to the people such as having to fully fund cross border pensions etc etc. I understand if Scotland does leave we in the UK will need a second general election as the Scots MPs leave. What a way to burn cash.

I understand if Scotland does leave we in the UK will need a second general election as the Scots MPs leave. What a way to burn cash. This is a question I asked of my MP. His answer is that the next election will include Scottish MPs as normal. He expects negotiation of the seperation to take much of the first half of the next 5 years, with full legal establishment of Scotland not complete much before 2018. At that point he claimed that the Scottish MPS would be excluded from committees and other issues dealing with the rest of the UK, but would remain as Defence, Foreign Affairs and possibly Finance would still require input from Scotland. I think he is deluded. The SNP will dmand a very quick settlement and the Scottish MPs may well be gone by the 2015 General Election.

I am now of the opinion that the price of keeping Scotland is too high, Scotland already gets more per capita investment than the rest, I detest that even today Scottish MPs can vote on what happens in the West Country but my MP has no vote on what happens say in East Lothian. With the referendum Pandora's box was opened and cannot be shut. Let the Scots go it alone and do not give way on things like the pound, defence etc. The rest of the UK will recover far quicker than Scotland and I look forward to going through border controls when I visit friends in Glasgow, actually not as they have already said that if the yes vote prevails then they will move to Cumbria ....I think we should have a referendum in the stump about whether we want to keep the scots.......
