Ian, Be careful when you hop in the car, as I hear they like to eat nuts. This could cause your bolt to fall out if not checked carefully

I've seen a fair bit of Allon Whites work and it is of a high standard.
Sorry to see this level of damage and extra expense - they are like seagulls down in Devon.
In the absence of any responsible LA or Governmental control action a few of these "tree rats" are meeting a .22 at close range.
They are destroyers of almost anything.

We have red squirrels in the garden every day, we feed them.
eddie Red squirrels are a delight and making a slow comeback in some areas. Grey squirrels are vermin and feeding them is illegal. If you trap them you MUST kill them, releasing a trapped one is illegal. But they are very good to eat, flavoursome rabbit is the best comparison. We can get them from the local game dealer for £1.00 each. Brilliant in a paella.....

Time to become a cat or terrier owner.
Sorry to see the damage. If you are going down the hunting rifle route, be careful, a cracked windscreen might be additional damage...

Thanks everyone for the replies. There a number of smaller chewed areas not shown in the pictures so I'm beginning to think that a new hood might be in order.
Nothing in the traps as yet.

I have five red squirrels in the garden but they just eat what we put out for them. I would bet that damage was mice. Rats are a growing danger.
Not a nice find.

Sorry to hear about the damage Ian.It may be worth trying Melvin Rutter he seems to carry a lot of secondhand parts which could be a good solution if he has one.

This reminds me of a chap I spoke to at the Leven garage in Melton Mowbray at their spring meet who's Tvr griff had been chewed in the wiring loom , much more expensive than a hood , ultrasonic sound deterer and mouse poison and keep the hood up in the garage ?

I suspect mice. I keep a piece of drainpipe regularly topped up with rat bait in my garage. It disappears regularly but never see any mice or damage.
