Baffled by this oil leak which albeit minimal and appears to be coming from the RMS, have googled lots and read plenty of BMW forum threads but this does not appear to be a common failure at all!? My car is is a 2003 and only covered 12k miles, I welcome your expert knowledge.
I had an oil leak found on service in January this year on my S1 Aero, with Brian Miller. Turned out to be a fairly common leak from the seals at the remote oil filter. They perish over time. You might just check yours. They are straightforward to replace. Dave
Chris, Dave mentioned the seals at the oil filter (and I take it he meant O rings on oil pipes from the engine block). These same pipes also have seals at the other end where they go into the block. Mine had perished causing quite a bad oil leak that wasn't visible to. the eye from any angle. The O rings are penny cheap but an absolute pig to replace😡😡😡. I seem to remember having to make up a special tool to undo the bolt on the bracket holding the pipe into the block.
Phillip Not sure of work done as I had the car transported to Millers and did not get to see the leak first hand. Itemised bill describes the following "remove remote oil filter housing to engine hoses and replace leaking seals". Dave
