Aussie (or at least NSW) big brother supposedly has us covered every which way.

In NSW they stopped issuing Registration stickers (our equivalent of a tax disc) last year.

The system is apparently policed by the myriad of fixed and mobile cameras on police cars. The latter can read loads of number plates in minutes and presumably as these are checked electronically at HQ, infringement notices are issued. Now whether this works I don't know.

But I do know that the bus lanes are policed in a similar manner and if your car doesn't have a bus number plate (separate numbering series here), you will get an infringement notice in the mail.

Since we have this system, I don't understand why we have to have an electronic toll tag for our toll roads as the cameras similarly read the number plates.

Whateva! It's no longer sporting!

Apparently the cost of the sticker (tax disk) is less than $1, so no great saving. I used to use mine to remember when my registration was due. We now get a bill and that's it. There is an aftermarket for stickers that have a date reminder on them. It is now illegal to have a rego sticker on your vehicle cop

Very occasionally we see a camera van on the A36 betwen Salisbury and Southampton. I know Wiltshire Police traffic cars all have the ability to read and check, but again there are only a handfull to cover the county and to be honest they have more important priorities.

But if no one was looking at tax discs anyway I uppose nothing really changes!

My RAC membership renewal pack arrived this morning. Included in it, a Tax Disc holder!

Tomorrow morning the tax disc will be joining it in the bin.

I shall keep the old discs, in the vehicle folders, just as a reminder... Sad I suppose...
I guess the RAC have got lots to dispose of Ian, and if they put them in the bin they'll probably be charged for disposal...
Wonder if I'll get one when I renew in February laugh2

I really regret the passing of the disc, and if there was an option to have one for a small fee, I would have one.

For old times sake. Sad but true.

I'm quite pleased

For the first time in 5 months I'll be legal tomorrow

The tax disk fell off the windscreen, I put it somewhere safe to reaffix and haven't a clue where it's gone

I had rehearsed in my mind all sorts of replies to any traffic or police officers if I was questioned about it

I am sure that they would have believed me that being in a open top car, some bright spark had taken a shine to my nice Morgan logo'd stuck on tax disk holder and nicked it

Have a look here:

I was thinking of getting one for the traction engine, but they don't go back to 1905 frown
