I did 340 miles on Saturday in my 4/4, rain and shine. I assume that a +8 would be even more comfortable. No aches and pains suffered.

I will do about 1,000 miles this week ... Getting great smiles-per-gallon.

I can drive my present (and previous 1976) 4/4 for several hours and hundreds of miles without your 'horse racing' feeling. But then I did most of my motoring with products from Land Rover (before I could afford a Morgan)...

Now the big question:

Is there anyone in the N West (centred around Chester) who will let me get near their Morgan, ask silly questions and let me experience what it's like to drive in one - in return for winning a future Morgan fan over - oh - and a packet of chocolate biscuits too!!!

I spent years and lots of money on classic cars having bought and lost money on eight before seeing the light.
I now have a 1991 +8, purchased 3yrs ago to replace a Triumph Stag, which is just so much fun to drive and both my wife and I absolutely love it.
There is no doubt you either love or hate Morgan's I've never come across any other car that polarizes opinions to such a degree.
You do need to try the various models as they do all have different characters.

If you enjoy being "in charge" then you will certainly enjoy any Morgan , they are very much that sort of car, but as you suspect , they will go (much) faster than 70 mph , but in safety and style.

I certainly drive for 300 miles plus without feeling like I have dragged through a hedge backwards. My wife is also a very capable +8 driver, you don't need muscles like Popeye. For the last 2 years we have done more than 1800 driving from London to the West Highlands , together with a lot of touring in the area, not easy roads , but wonderful scenery and great enjoyment in the open +8.

The best way to see if the "hard suspension" is an issue for you is to try driving one. If you are still not sure (but I don't expect this to be the case) then see if you can hold of one with the Suplex front suspension kit, it will show how much can be achieved. There are adjustable shocks galore available , but the Mog suspension does not go in for PTFE bushes etc , you will see what we mean when you look at one in more detail.

As far as distance goes I once drove my (then) 6 month old 2002+8 back from Munich to Leicester in one day, I also drove a 2008 +4 from Shirisham (spelling will be wrong) in Sweden to Belgium via the bridges and Denmark (600 miles approx.) in one hit and my wife was a passenger and was still speaking to me.....they will cover large distances if that's what you need them to do, no problem if that's your thing. Equally they will trundle 10 miles down to the pub and you will be smiling when you get there. All this nonsense about suspension and handling has to be taken in the light that its been written by none passionate journalists and all the good points has been written by passionate Morgan owners. You really do have to test a selection, decide if you can live with a short door car, if so an earlier +8 is possible, as Andy has said if you can get a later long door +8 for £30K you probably will have work to do. Forget what you have learnt about PTFE bushes on a TR, that does not apply to Morgan suspension, go drive one and the virus will get you or it will not....I went for a test drive in 2001 and within 400 yards knew I had found what I wanted and I have never regretted it. Have fun looking, that's part of the fun.

If you want a car purely for fun then do try the 3 wheeler.

I went from a Ferrari to my M3W and it's much more useable on the UK roads - it's fun at legal speeds, smaller so great down country lanes, has better ground clearance and is much, much cheaper to run.

Did 120 miles in mine at the weekend despite a recently slipped disc. Took a while to get in but once in it was fine even to the point that I was disappointed when the journey was over. The adrenaline keeps coming and coming. Best pain killer/distractor that I know!
