I collected my new 4/4 from Melbourne in 36C summer weather and drove it 545 Kms the first day, mostly on non M way roads and was very happy to drive the other half up to Sydney the next day.

II didn't feel as if I had been on a horse!

It did take that first day to get used to it. By evening I loved it. I do miss having power in the 4/4, it needs to be rowed along, but on a windey hilly road nothing comes close for enjoyment.

I must be down the road from you at Helsby! Very happy to meet up and give you a ride in my humble 4/4 Sport and chat about the different ones. A lot of it is about thinking how you will want to use it. Is it a Sunday morning thrash or long distance cruising. As others have said, don't dismiss the 4/4 as it does get you back to grass roots fun. I've driven the faster ones but around these lanes I have more fun in something lightweight and loves being thrashed. Just PM me if you want to get in touch.

I've got a 2009 Roadster. 100 miles is easy, 200 miles is fine, depending on the road surface. Motorways are less enjoyable than nice twisty A and B Roads. It feels 10 to 15 mph faster than other cars at the same speed, so rarely exceed 70, other than on Motorways where it can sit at 80 wasily, but earplugs are a good idea.

As has been said, you either love them or find them old, crude and uncomfortable. I fins the press comments superficial. but then most of the press journalists are young and never experienced cars in the 60s and 70s. I have a 2013 BMW320i, another car that Autocar raves about. It is hugely capable but as engaging as a conversation with a Miele washing machine.

I'm presently wondering if I should keep the Roadster, which as has been said, is about as much fun as you can have with your cloths on, or go into the world of the Aero based +8. One test drive made me wonder. I need more exposure. I need to see if I can drive it 400 miles in a day without excessive fatigue. Then it can replace the BMW.

Oh, the new 2014 +8 has ABS, but not Traction Control. It also has Airbags, but they are a delete option in the UK: not for all markets.

I find 300 mile days are absolutely fine, I'm sure I could do more but I can't offhand remember if I've ever needed to. When we do our Scotland trips I'm usually doing c. 250 - 300 miles per day for a week solid, and by the end of the week I find I'm more at home than ever in the car, certainly not suffering.

Before you make a decision you really do need to drive a few and get a feel for them. They are very different and not every bodies cup of tea, the handling, ride and general squeaks and rattles can really put some people off....but for others, that's all part of the Morgan attraction. As well as trying a Plus8 of the age range you are looking at, do try a 3.0 Roadster if you can, more power than the former and a lovely engine, well suited to the car although you will miss the V8 sound.

I'm biased as I work at the factory...but try to get down for a tour and see how the cars are constructed....they then make sense!

Zoros, as I sit looking out the balcony of my hotel in Cannes, watching the cars drive up the boulevard on the beach, I see the Lambos and the Ferrari and all the other exotics drive by, I think that if a +8 drove past it would get more looks than any of them. Go for it and live.

I am fairly new to MorGans and was worried about all these reviews commenting on hard suspension, poor road holding and noisey. However, After a few test drives I bought a Plus 4 and found its suspension pleasantly supple, the road holding great and the roar of the sports exhUst quite exhilarating.. Have a few test and see if it's for you. Good luck.
