Sorry Dab, I should have remembered, at least I didn't try too hard to nick your idea.
I like the idea of a lightweight cover, but I rather suspect that carbon fibre on the Morgan would be a big No, No?
On the other hand, wouldn't it be fun to build a really lightweight Morgan Three Wheeler? It would need to start with a properly triangulated chassis of course, then most things after that would need to be remade with proper materials, including carbon fibre of course. Perhaps Morgan would do it and call it SP2, if Brian asked even more nicely?

Dear all, I send last week an email to the company who's manufacturing the belts: Gates Got last Friday this answer below. Looks like they more serious with unhappy customers as MMC !! Send them the details of the belts and will keep you all informed about the answers. ----------------- Hello Laurens I am just wondering if you can share with me a bit more information? The Morgan 3 wheeler you speak about, is this one of the new Morgan 3 Wheelers with the 1976cc S&S engine? After I saw your email I did a quick search online and it appears a lot of owners are complaining about timing belt issues with their vehicles. I think I also came across one of your posts as well on talkmorgan.com. Could you maybe share some more pictures of any branding or print on the back of the belt please? It would also be great if you could supply me some info on number of teeth and width, if you had a broken belt you could send me also it would be interesting to take a look at the broken belt. Excuse my ignorance but how does the tensioner work on this engine? Is it a fixed tensioner with an eccentric which is locked, or is it a spring loaded tensioner which adjusts? Without seeing the engine or at least the belt I could not comment as to why it has failed. Spraying with PTFE would not be recommended. Depending on temperatures of the engine and the belt inside the cover, venting maybe be a good idea, however the cover is there to prevent debris getting in to the drive and causing failure due to debris getting caught between the pulleys and belt. It would be better if we had a little more understanding of the temperatures involved under normal and higher load running. Can you monitor this? I have not been involved on a belt for this project already so you would have to help me with details, however I would be happy to have a look at the information and see if we can help resolve the situation. I have not asked already but is this a Gates belt on the drive? The plot thickens According to Gate's own publicity they designed the whole cam belt system for S and S x Wedge complete with spring loaded eccentric tensioner. Interestingly S and S 's own manual shows a tensioner that requires a cutaway socket to release the tension. Ours need an alan key. Can't belive that Gate's no nothing about this whole sorry tale. There's plenty of bike forums discussing the same problem on bikes with the X Wedge

I like the idea of a lightweight cover, but I rather suspect that carbon fibre on the Morgan would be a big No, No? I like the idea. Why not?! All the lights are LEDs and my headlights are now LEDs as well. This is a modern car with an aluminum aircraft skin, Fuel Injection with a computer controlling all. This could look good!

Just a thought,.... To prevent the Cam Belt overheating...I am considering the 2mm washer idea to put a gap between the Cam Belt housing box and the engine as already sugested on this topic. For the air entrance I thought drilling a lot of thiny (like 3 mm) holes in the rough part of the S&S emblem on the cover, to make it funktion like a intake grid any ideas or cons to that mod? ...am I right that the 2014 M3W's are delivered with that gap for cooling the Cam Belt?
