An interesting article in December 'Octane' about the latest offering from Frontline Developments. Taking a brand new bodyshell, their MGB 'Abingdon' is similar to the LE50- only more so! A 2.5lt Mazda 4cyl, modified to over 300bhp, makes this B seriously fast. All for about 80 grand, for what appears to remain a standard-looking roadster.
(nothing on their website about the 'Abingdon', but this will give some idea)

I like the look of the LE50, but for me it has two drawbacks.

Firstly, being of an age where one remembers the original, then the engine sound from a Classic MGB is very evocative, and it won't be replicated.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the originals did rust badly and although they are using a new fully seam welded heritage body shell, they've not gone the extra mile and hot dip galvanised it. At the price point, personally I think this is a weakness.

as a former Aero owner, I am still on this site and though you may like the build photos of the LE50 I have on order, to see and drive the car far different than reading about it.
although I like the new plus 8 the build quality of the LE50 is in a different ball park

Gerry.

I believe Omex is building this engine for them. It has twin variable cam timing and a load of nice goodies inside. It is a long stroke motor so develops loads of torque mid-range. Perhaps a bit much for a Plus 4 but it would slot in without too much difficulty. The also make a 280 hp and a 220 hp version.
