Thinking of upgrading my 4/4 to a narrow body 4/4 and asked the factory the tyre size which nobody seemed to know! Have heard that some have the speed tyre CR6Zzs but to use these on the road would probably damage them due to lack of heat required to race this tyre. Did borrow a +4 gdi from BHM for the morning which was a great drive with 16 inch Avons but lacked the feel of the 4/4 at lower speeds in my opinion although the extra power was great together with steering hardening up when cornering at greater speed! So now need to drive the narrow version! Anybody owning one woul appreciate advice on handling, suspension etc. RogT 4/4 Ort Sand HDY

Roger - you're in Kent so pop in at BHM and see the team there. The 4/4 2L Anniversaries came with the Avons as standard 185/70HR15. I suspect that the narrow bodied Plus 4 will be the same, unless you specify different on your order.

Very good except in torrential rain, when they are unpredictable, as you would expect with such minimalist tread. Very early aquaplaning when standing water, or streams across the road. On normal wet roads, no problem.

Roger Those Avons are used by many Morgan Competitors, because they give exceptional grip in both wet and dry conditions. Dave and I have discussed this on another thread, it may be the conditions he found were exceptionally testing for a tyre with minimal tread, pattern and therefore limited ability to clear deep water BUT under all other conditions they are superb. In the dry they will hang on for ever, you will run out of brakes before you run out of grip. On a "normal" wet road they are also excellent and you won't need to slow down too much from your dry speeds (but please remember you have no abs in a Trad Mog and therefore should use cadence braking) You do need to scrub them in well before using them in anger (like a track day) but once ready they will give great performance . Don't worry about warming them up, they are a very soft compound and will start to respond well from the outset. Apart from deep water clearance the only real downside is the price. Andy

Roger I have a 2013 Duratec narrow bodied + 4 it came fitted with 185/70/15 Avon CR6ZZ. Can't imagine it would be different for the GDI. Like Andy says they are a superb tyre, they grip so well I can't even get them to squeal. I have driven in some horrendous rain without problems, but the price

The CR6ZZ is a range of road legal radial competition tyres suitable for classic performance cars. They are an all-weather tyre designed to be used for competition driving in disciplines such as classic road rallying, trackdays and circuit racing. Available in a wide range of high profile sizes appropriate for the period. A range covering everything from minis and MGBs to Austin Healey 3000 and Ford GT40s. Although the CR6ZZ uses competition compounds the aesthetics of the tyre are very much in keeping with the cars they are intended to fit.I have always rated Avon tyres: thee look just about perfect for a trad Mog.

I note that the 'narrow-bodied' Plus 4 has 185 section tyre. Presumably this means its on 5.5" rims rather than the 5" /165 as on the 4/4?
