Hello, I'm trying to cure a lack of dipped headlamps on my S1. As I had the wings off for it's annual service I tested the voltage at the connectors on both sides and it's good. Also tested bulbs and they're both good. Then noticed that on main beam dipped lights come on (normal?). However no lights when stalk is in dipped position.

Reading some forums on E39 BMWs they appear to sometimes have lighting issues that are connected to the LCM, lighting control module. Does anyone know if this same LCM is installed on the S1 Aero and if so where?

On the good news front whilst wings were off I also took the opportunity to remove the front underfloor and replace the very tired and original starter motor. She now starts again first push of the button without any dreaded clicks.

Could be a poor contact in the stalk Dip position, especially if the car ever gets damp

I have a +4 which had the wings off and the paint shop muddled the connectors up. Basically there were two wires for the non existent wing top lights. Took me a while with a multimeter identifying which wire was connected to headlamp dipped bulb and matching that with the wire that went live when the dipped beam switch was activated. Don't know if the loom for the Aero also had these redundant wires.

When my son's 4/4 was restored and reassembled the main and dip beam were on simultaneously. He eventually found that the factory had connected the loom incorrectly and the +ve and -ve were reversed (hence positive earth). It would be worth checking that the polarity of the wiring is correct.

The problem started before the wings were removed, so I don't think it's a case of incorrect wire connections. As you suggest Milligoon, it could be down to the stalk and I was going to have a look at this. However as I understand the wiring loom is BMW (E39) I thought I'd have a quick search on the internet so see if this was an E39 issue. That's when I found read about the Light Control Module, hence my question as to whether one is fitted on the Aero?
