After an hours drive last week the Morgan's engine light came on as I engaged reverse and backed into the driveway. Having plugged a scanner into the OBD2 socket I've two errors both stating 'Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Range / Performance': Three questions: 1. Is this a common fault with the Mog (my searching suggests not) 2. Any idea why I'm seeing this? 3. Where is the air sensor located on Aero models?

Perhaps this is the car's way of telling you it's feeling a bit chilly and prefers summer weather?

Hello Stephen, this may not be of help but on the M62 engine (S1) there is no separate ambient air sensor as it is all part of the air mass sensor (same I think as air flow meter). I replaced mine about six years ago, not a difficult job.
Cheers

Check engine light is a common intermittent issue. Leave the car for 10 minutes and restart and it will probably be gone. If so I wouldn't worry about it.::

Many thanks for all the replies. Can someone tell me which component I need to get and where it sits on the car. Had a look at the parts diagram but I'm befuddled.

Stephen
If the car is running fine I would do what Mr Tony suggests.
If you have running issues (in my case when I had AFM failure the car ran erratically) then you'll need the AFM for whatever BMW engine is in the Super Sports. It'll most likely a Bosch item so once you have part number can be found easily on the internet or many motor factors.
AFM itself, again if same as S1, is located on top and front of engine where air intake pipe comes from air cleaner. Replaceable without removing any bodywork, at least on S1.
Cheers

hi stephen i wasent as clever as philpo dropped two spanners trying to get airflow sensor off just as easy to whip off the front cowl you can also retrieve your lost spanners sprays are available to clean the sensor not wd40 stick it back on before replacing the cowl it might just be dirty otherwise its about eighty quid for a new pattern sensor or about hunderd and sixty for bmw x5 original dont forget to clean your fault code hope this helps

Thanks all. I've cleared the two errors and will see how the car runs the next couple of weeks. Right now the error hasn't reappeared and the engine sounds as normal.
