Thanks, Jeremy. Eifel is a very nice and genuine rough area in the west of Germany, between Cologne and Belgium/Luxemburg. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EifelThis area is about 50 miles away from Cologne only and offers plenty of fantastic B roads. Relatively known is the Nurburgring (green hell) in the northern heart of this area. Because the area was poor, the "Ring" was an employment project in 1927, before our so dark decade appeared. BTW because of stupid gambling and crooked politicians who burned more than 300Mio € in dubious investments we all are scared that the Ring could be closed in nearer future.

They have built a so called event building/park, big hotels and a synthetic village, NO one cares about all that stuff. This plastic village, full with cheap and always empty entertainment/Bars/Restaurants which have become mildewed in the meantime is about to be teared down soon. Criminal consulters promised to the naive politicians that big companies could become clients to have huge seminars etc. in this area, too far away from anything. They built a very big and fast and expensive rollercoaster which run exactly one time... Not long ago during this summer, a third party car parts supplier has overtaken the Ring. Now, just three weeks from now it was obvious that this company itself is bankrupted. To clutch at any straw now a Russian oligarch is in discussion to purchase the Ring. Some really very good roads in the region. A number of years ago we participated in a Classic Car Rally based in Trier, ended up at the 'Ring'. Probably one of the best rallies driving, food, Beer and locals I have had the pleasure of meeting. Loved it good place for a drive 'scratch' around Heinz, we also enjoyed the roads in Luxembourg.
